2015–16 Gibraltar Premier Division
The 2015–16 Gibraltar Premier Division (known as the Argus Insurance Premier Division for sponsorship reasons) was the 117th season of the national amateur and semi-professional football league in Gibraltar since its establishment - the highest level of football in Gibraltar. The league was contested by ten clubs, expanded from eight clubs in the last two seasons, including all clubs from last season and two promoted clubs from 2014–15 Gibraltar Second Division. The winner of the Gibraltar Premier Division, Lincoln Red Imps was allocated a spot in Champions League qualification, and as they won the Rock Cup a spot in the Europa League was given to the runners-up Europa FC. Lincoln Red Imps were the reigning champions, sealing a record 21st title last season. Gibraltar Premier Division
The Gibraltar Premier Division was a football league established by the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) in 1905, and the top tier of football in Gibraltar. It originally contained eight member clubs, but it has grown over the years. In 1909 the league was split into two divisions between which clubs can be promoted and relegated at the end of each season. In the 2013–14 season, the Premier Division contained eight clubs with the Second Division containing 12 clubs. For sponsorship reasons it is known as the Argus Insurance Premier Division. From the 2014–15 season, as a result of the territory's membership of UEFA, the champions entered the first UEFA Champions League qualifying round. The winners of Gibraltar's cup competition, the Rock Cup, meanwhile, gained entry to the following season's UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds. Cristian Toncheff (born 25 March 1982) is a professional Argentinean footballer and coach, He currently works for the Barça Academy. Joseph Chipolina
Joseph Louis Chipolina (born 14 December 1987) is a Gibraltar international footballer who plays for Glacis United of the Gibraltar Football League, on loan from Lincoln Red Imps as a left back or left winger. He is his nation's third most-capped player of all time, having also played the first 27 official matches after Gibraltar were accepted into UEFA. Club career Chipolina began his career with Linense of the Spanish Segunda División B and Tercera División, the third and fourth tier of the Spanish football league system respectively, between 2007 and 2012. In 2011–12, Chipolina played one season at CD San Roque of the Tercera División. In March 2012, Chipolina earned a week-long trial at Leyton Orient of England's League One. Lee Henry Casciaro (born 29 September 1981) is a Gibraltarian footballer who plays as a forward for Lincoln Red Imps and the Gibraltar national team. With three international goals, he is Gibraltar's all-time leading scorer since joining UEFA, followed by Roy Chipolina, Joseph Chipolina, Jake Gosling and Liam Walker. He is the brother of Ryan Casciaro and Kyle Casciaro who have also played for the Gibraltar national team. Kyle Casciaro
Kyle Casciaro (born 2 December 1987) is a Gibraltarian footballer who plays for Bruno's Magpies, and the Gibraltar national team, where he plays as a winger or forward. Club career Casciaro came through the ranks of Lincoln Red Imps with brothers Ryan and Lee, becoming ever present in the dominant Red Imps team that won 6 of its 14 consecutive league titles from 2010 to 2016. After suffering a serious injury in summer 2017, he retired from football. However, in January 2018 he came out of retirement, re-joining Lincoln while joining FC Olympique 13 on loan for the rest of the season, in order to regain match fitness. 2016 Rock Cup
The first match of the 2016 Rock Cup was played 10 January 2016. The competition will be a single-leg knockout tournament. The first round will be contested between second division teams, with premier division teams joining in the second round. The winner of this competition qualifies for the 2016–17 UEFA Europa League and would be able to enter the tournament in the first qualifying round. If the 2016 Rock Cup winner also wins the 2015–16 Gibraltar Premier Division, the place reserved for the cup winner will go to the second place team from the league. 2016–17 Gibraltar Second Division
The 2016–17 Gibraltar Second Division season was the fourth since the Gibraltar Football Association joined UEFA. This season the league was contested by 9 clubs. Format Clubs play each other twice for a total of 16 matches each. The Second Division winner was promoted while the second-placed team entered a playoff with the ninth-placed team from the Premier Division. This season also saw the introduction of a Home Grown Player (HPG) rule, requiring clubs to name 3 home grown players in their matchday squads with at least one of them on the field of play at all times. Gibraltar Phoenix were forced to forfeit their first two games after being found in breach of this new rule, with their 4-1 win over Hound Dogs on the opening week being overturned.
