2015–16 FC Barcelona Season
The 2015–16 season was Futbol Club Barcelona's 116th in existence and the club's 85th consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. Barcelona was involved in six competitions after completing its second continental treble in the previous season. The season produced a domestic double of La Liga and Copa del Rey wins, with Barça coming out on top in a closely fought title race and defeating newly crowned Europa League winners Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final after extra time. However, Barça failed to clinch its second sextuple after 2009 by losing the Supercopa de España to Copa del Rey runners-up Athletic Bilbao (0–4 away, 1–1 home). 1997–98 FC Barcelona Season
FC Barcelona returned to its previous glorious league ways under the guidance of new coach Louis van Gaal. The highly rated coach, hired from Ajax Amsterdam, brought lethal striker Sonny Anderson and the attacking midfielder Rivaldo with him. But surprisedly Barcelona sold Ronaldo to Inter Milan just before season begin and Sonny Anderson subsequently became the main striker. He introduced his 4-3-3 formation to Barcelona, under which Rivaldo scored 20 goals in the league as centre forward. Under van Gaal at helm in his first season, Barcelona won their 15th La Liga title, 2nd European Super Cup title as well as 24th Copa del Rey title (thus winning a domestic double) but Barcelona crashed out of the UEFA Champions League, following a lacklustre performance in the First Group phase. 2013–14 UEFA Champions League Knockout Phase
The knockout phase of the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League began on 18 February and concluded on 24 May 2014 with the final at Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal. The term ''sextuple'' is mainly used in the sports press for winning six important national and international titles in sport, especially in football, within one sporting year or season. The 2016–17 season was Futbol Club Barcelona's 117th in existence and the club's 86th consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football.
