2015 UCLA Bruins Baseball Team
The 2015 UCLA Bruins baseball team represents the University of California, Los Angeles in the 2015 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Bruins compete in the Pac-12 Conference, and plays their home games in Jackie Robinson Stadium. John Savage is in his eleventh season as head coach. The Bruins are coming off a season in which they were 25-30-1 (12-18 Pac-12), near the bottom of the Pac-12 Conference standings. This season, the Bruins completed the regular season with a 42–14 record and were awarded the No. 1 seed in the 2015 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and as the host of the Los Angeles Regional. They played against the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners, and the Maryland Terrapins, beginning on May 29. They ended the season by losing the series to Maryland 1–2 in the final regional game. John Savage (baseball)
John Savage (born February 27, 1965) is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, who currently serves as the head baseball coach for the UCLA Bruins baseball, UCLA Bruins. He played college baseball at Santa Clara Broncos baseball, Santa Clara for coaches Jerry McClain and John Oldham (baseball), John Oldham from 1984 to 1986 before playing in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) for three seasons (1986-1988). After serving as an assistant coach with Nevada Wolf Pack, Nevada and USC Trojans, USC in the 1990s, he became the head coach for the UC Irvine Anteaters (2002–04). Savage became UCLA's head baseball coach in July 2004 and has guided the Bruins in that role for the past 18 seasons. 2015 Major League Baseball Draft
The 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft was held from June 8 through June 10, 2015, to assign amateur baseball players to MLB teams. The draft order is the reverse order of the 2014 MLB season standings. As the Diamondbacks finished the 2014 season with the worst record, they had the first overall selection. Cody Austin Poteet (born July 30, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Miami Marlins. Amateur career Poteet attended Christian High School in El Cajon, California. After his senior year, he was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 27th round of the 2012 MLB draft, but did not sign and instead enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to play college baseball for the UCLA Bruins. Kevin Lowell Kramer (born October 3, 1993) is an American former professional baseball second baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018 and 2019. Amateur career Kramer attended Turlock High School in Turlock, California. James Douglas Kaprielian (; born March 2, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he played college baseball for the UCLA Bruins, and was drafted by the New York Yankees with the 16th pick in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) is an association of baseball writers, broadcasters, and publicists in the United States. It was founded in 1962. The NCBWA compiles a preseason ranking of the top 35 teams in the nation, as voted on by its members. Jackie Robinson Stadium (UCLA Baseball)
Jackie Robinson Stadium is a college baseball park in Los Angeles, California. It is the home field of the UCLA Bruins of the Pac-12 Conference. Opened in 1981, it is the smallest ballpark in the conference, with a seating capacity of 1,820. It is named after former Bruin athlete Jackie Robinson, the first African-American major league baseball player of the modern era. Robinson (1919–1972) attended UCLA from 1939 to 1941, after graduating from Pasadena Junior College. He was the first UCLA athlete to earn varsity letters in four sports: baseball, basketball, football, and track. David Berg (pitcher)
David Andrew Berg (born March 28, 1993) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he played college baseball for the UCLA Bruins baseball team. He was named an All-American and Pac-12 Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Year in 2013. He set a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) record for saves in a single season with 24. The Texas Rangers selected Berg in the 17th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. He did not sign with the Rangers and returned to UCLA for his senior season. Maryland Terrapins Baseball
The Maryland Terrapins baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of University of Maryland, College Park in College Park, Maryland, United States. The program's first season was in 1893, and it has been a member of the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference since the start of the 2015 season.
