2015 St Peter Port North By-election
The 2015 St Peter Port North by-election was held in the States of Guernsey district of St Peter Port North on 2 December 2015 following the death of deputy Martin Storey in July 2015. 3,224 residents were eligible to vote, a reduction to 86% of those who had been eligible for the 2012 election. There was some controversy over holding a by-election as the cost is estimated at £51,100 to elect someone to sit as a deputy for just five months, especially when the number of deputies and therefore seats will be reduced in April 2016. Saint Peter Port North
Saint Peter Port North was an electoral district in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. It was created following the Machinery of Government changes which came into effect in 2004. It consists of the northern part of the parish of St. Peter Port. It is divided from St. Peter Port South by the following roads: Rohais, Les Gravées, The Grange and St. Julian's Avenue. Polling stations: * Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, Amherst * Princess Royal Performing Arts Centre, Les Ozouets The district had six Deputies which represent its electorate in the States of Guernsey. Martin Storey (died July 22, 2015) was a Channel Islander politician who served as a deputy in the States of Guernsey from 2008 until his death on July 22, 2015, representing the St Peter Port North constituency. He also served as Deputy Minister of the Health and Social Services Department, and a member of the Housing and Commerce and Employment Departments and on the Public Accounts Committee during his tenure in the States. David Noakes
David Noakes (born March 1953) is a British computer consultant, businessman and politician, who founded Immuno Biotech Ltd. to promote the unproven therapy GcMAF and came last in the 2006 UKIP leadership election. He pleaded guilty to "money laundering and manufacturing, supplying and selling an unlicensed medicine" and was sentenced in November 2018 to 15 months' imprisonment. Business Noakes was a computer consultant for a decade. In 2004, he designed an alphabetical keyboard layout. He says he has worked for several Cornish companies, including Holman Brothers, Mount Wellington Tin Mine, and Phillips Frith, and in several countries, including in Brussels and for JPMorgan Chase Bank in New York. The ''Guernsey Press and Star'', more commonly known as the ''Guernsey Press'' is the only daily newspaper published in Guernsey. History The ''Guernsey Evening Press'' was first published in 1897. In 1951 it purchased the struggling ''Guernsey Star'' (first published in 1813), renaming itself ''Guernsey Evening Press and Star''. The paper was published by The Guernsey Press Company until 1999 when the company merged with Guiton, publishers of the ''Jersey Evening Post''. In 2004 Guiton came under the ownership of the Claverlely Group, which also owns the ''Wolverhampton Express and Star'' and the ''Shropshire Star''.
