2015 Recopa Sudamericana
The 2015 Recopa Sudamericana was the 23rd edition of the Recopa Sudamericana, the football competition organized by CONMEBOL between the winners of the previous season's two major South American club tournaments, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. The competition was contested in two-legged home-and-away format between Argentine teams San Lorenzo, the 2014 Copa Libertadores champion, and River Plate, the 2014 Copa Sudamericana champion. The first leg was hosted by River Plate at Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires on February 6, 2015, while the second leg was hosted by San Lorenzo at Estadio Pedro Bidegain in Buenos Aires on February 11, 2015. The CONMEBOL Recopa Sudamericana ( pt, CONMEBOL Recopa Sul-Americana), known also as the Recopa Sudamericana or CONMEBOL Recopa, and simply as the Recopa (, ; "Winners' Cup"), is an annual international club association football, football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1988. It is a match-up between the champions of the previous year's Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, South America's premier club competitions. The competition has had several formats over its lifetime. Initially, the champions of the Copa Libertadores and Supercopa Libertadores contested it. 2014 Copa Sudamericana
The 2014 Copa Sudamericana (officially the 2014 Copa Total Sudamericana for sponsorship reasons) was the 13th edition of the Copa Sudamericana, South America's secondary international club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. Lanús were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Cerro Porteño in the round of 16. In the finals, Argentine team River Plate defeated Colombian team Atlético Nacional 3–1 on aggregate to win their first title, and earned the right to play in the 2015 Recopa Sudamericana and the 2015 Suruga Bank Championship. José Ramiro Funes Mori (; born 5 March 1991) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a defender for Liga MX club Cruz Azul. Jonatan Ramón Maidana (born 29 July 1985) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for River Plate. Gabriel Iván Mercado (born 18 March 1987) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays for Internacional. Mainly a right back, he could also play as a central defender. The 1998 Recopa Sudamericana was the tenth Recopa Sudamericana, an annual football match between the winners of the previous season's Copa Libertadores and Supercopa Sudamericana competitions. This will become the last Recopa Sudamericana on this format as the Supercopa Sudamericana was discontinued by CONMEBOL in 1998. With no existing secondary tournament, the Recopa Sudamericana became an impracticable competition until the introduction of the Copa Sudamericana in 2002. The series was contested between Cruzeiro, winners of the 1997 Copa Libertadores, and River Plate, winners of the 1997 Supercopa Sudamericana, in a two-legged series. The 1997 Recopa Sudamericana was the ninth Recopa Sudamericana, an annual football match between the winners of the previous season's Copa Libertadores and Supercopa Sudamericana competitions. 2003 Recopa Sudamericana
The 2003 Recopa Sudamericana was the 11th edition of the match-up contested between the winners of CONMEBOL's two continental tournaments. This was the first ''Recopa'' contested since 1999 when the competition was discontinued due to the Supercopa Sudamericana folding in 1997. However, in 2002 the Copa Sudamericana was created to serve as the second most important continental trophy. Thus, the Recopa Sudamericana became playable again pitting the winners of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same.
