2015 Nigeria Women Premier League
The 2015 Nigeria Women Premier League is the 25th season of women's association football in Nigeria, and the second season since the re-branding of the competition from a championship to a premier league. The league started in May 2015, and the regular season was concluded by September of the same year. Rivers Angels came to the season as defending champions after winning the 2014 edition. They successfully defended the title by defeating Bayelsa Queens by a lone goal from Osinachi Ohale in the super six final in Umuahia, Abia State. The super six tournament began on October 20 and was concluded November 5, 2015. Rivers Angels F.C. (formerly Larry Angels F.C.) is a Nigerian football club based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. They play in the Nigeria Women Premier League, the top flight division in the female soccer league system. History The club was established as Larry Angels F.C. in 1986 by Prince Lawrence Ezeh, a native of Mbaise in Imo State. In 1991, the government of Rivers State took control of the club through the first lady of the state, Mrs Abbe. They came tops at the introduction of female football at the National Sports Festival, held in the then capital, Lagos State in 1989. Nasarawa Amazons F.C. is a women's association football club based in Lafia in Nasarawa State, the club is related to the men's football club Nasarawa United. The home jersey is green, the away jersey is white with a diagonal sky blue stripe. History The club was founded by the government of Nasarawa State in year 2000. The nickname of the club, ''Solid Babes'' is gotten from the official slogan of the state. They won the Nigeria Women Premier League in 2013 and 2017, and were runners-up in 2006, 2007 and 2016. Joy Jegede (born 16 December 1991) is a Nigerian women's international footballer who plays as a defender. She is a member of the Nigeria women's national football team, and previously for the under-20 side. She was part of the team at the 2012 African Women's Championship. On club level she captains Nigerian-based Delta Queens, and previously played for Bobruichanka Bobruisk in Belarus. Career Club Joy Jegede was one of several Nigerian players in the squad of Bobruichanka Bobruisk, of the Belarusian Premier League. Nigerian fullback Queen Ejovwo Willian praised Jegede for making her feel accepted when she joined the side. Since at least 2015, Jegede has played for Nigerian-based Delta Queens. Emueje Ogbiagbevha is a Nigerian football striker currently playing for FC Minsk in the Belarusian Premier League. She previously played for BIIK Kazygurt in the Kazakhstani Championship, and in the Russian Championship for Rossiyanka and Energiya Voronezh. She was the top scorer of the 2010 season while playing in Rossiyanka, with which she won two doubles.
