Mansfield District Council
Mansfield District is a local government district in Nottinghamshire, England. Its council is based in the town of Mansfield. The district is bounded by the districts of Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood and Gedling, as well as the Derbyshire districts of Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. It is also part of the Mansfield urban area. History The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by the merger of the Municipal Borough of Mansfield with Mansfield Woodhouse Urban District and Warsop Urban District. Geography As well as the town of Mansfield, settlements in the district include Mansfield Woodhouse, Forest Town and parts of Pleasley, with Warsop and Meden Vale distanced and annexed by open countryside. Mansfield (UK Parliament Constituency)
Mansfield is a constituency created in 1885 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2017 by Ben Bradley of the Conservative Party, who gained the seat at the 2017 general election, from the Labour Party. This is the first time the seat has been represented by a Conservative since its creation in 1885. The seat is centred on Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. The seat, in recent times, has been considered a relatively marginal seat. The Mansfield council area voted with more than 70% to Leave the European Union in the 2016 referendum. Kate Allsop is a British local politician who was the directly elected mayoress of Mansfield from 2015 until the 2019 election when she was beaten by Labour candidate Andy Abrahams by two votes. She first stood for the post in 2002 as a member of the Conservative Party. Allsop left the Conservative party in 2003 to become an "Independent Conservative", describing herself in the local newspaper as "true blue", remaining as president of Mansfield's Conservative Association. She later joined the Mansfield Independent Forum and was elected as a councillor in 2011. She succeeded Tony Egginton as mayor after beating the Labour party candidate in the 2015 Mayoral election. Mansfield District Council Elections
Mansfield District Council elections are held every four years. Mansfield District Council is the local authority for the non-metropolitan district of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, England. Since 2002 Mansfield has also had a directly elected mayor. Since the last boundary changes in 2011, 36 councillors have been elected from 36 wards. New ward boundaries are due to come into force for the 2023 election. Political control From 1891 until 1974 Mansfield was a municipal borough. Under the Local Government Act 1972 Mansfield became a non-metropolitan district and had its territory enlarged to also include Mansfield Woodhouse and Warsop. The first election to the reconstituted council was held in 1973, initially operating as a shadow authority before coming into its powers on 1 April 1974.
