FC Edmonton
FC Edmonton was a Canadian professional soccer club based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club was founded in 2010 and competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 2011 to 2017. The club went on hiatus when NASL ceased competitive operations before the cancelled 2018 season. FC Edmonton competed in the Canadian Premier League from the league's inaugural season in 2019 until 2022. From 2012 onward, FC Edmonton's home field had been Clarke Stadium. History Formative years In February 2010, FC Edmonton was launched by brothers Tom Fath and Dave Fath as founding members of the North American Soccer League. Matt Van Oekel
James Matthew "Matt" Van Oekel (born September 20, 1986) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for USL Championship club Birmingham Legion FC. Career Youth and college Van Oekel played one year of college soccer at Longwood University before transferring to Rutgers in his sophomore year. With Rutgers, he played in 47 games and earned 20 wins. Professional Van Oekel signed with Minnesota out of college in 2008, after impressing staff at the Thunder combine in February 2008. He made his professional debut on September 13, 2009, in 1–1 draw with Montreal Impact, and was released at the end of the season when the Thunder failed, before being picked up by their successor NSC Minnesota Stars, in April 2010. Mike Banner
Mike Banner (born October 20, 1984) is an American former professional soccer player who is currently retired. Career College Born in Washington, D.C., Banner attended Gonzaga College High School and began his collegiate soccer career at Georgetown University in 2002. He played in 18 matches during his freshman season for the Hoyas, starting 13 games, but transferred to Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville the following season. After sitting out a season he went on to play three more seasons for the Cougars, appearing in 56 matches during his career, scoring 18 goals along the way, and being awarded first team NCAA All-American. Professional Banner was drafted in the third round, 34th overall, by the Chicago Fire in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. He stayed with Chicago for five seasons. Edem Mortotsi (born 16 April 1993) is a Ghanaian football coach and former player who serves as the head fitness coach for Tanzanian club Young Africans. Early life Mortotsi was born in Accra, Ghana and emigrated to Canada at a young age. While in high school Mortotsi played with KC Trojans from the U12 level to the U18s. Dustin Clifman Corea Garay (born March 21, 1992) is an professional footballer who plays as a winger for Primera División club Águila. Born in the United States, he represents the El Salvador national team at international level. High school Dustin Corea attended Milwaukie High School, which he graduated in 2010. The San Antonio Scorpions were an American professional soccer team based in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 2010, the team made its debut in the North American Soccer League in 2012. Pablito "Pablo" Cruz (born December 30, 1991) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Detroit City FC in the National Independent Soccer Association. Career Cruz signed with the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2012 and made 52 appearances for them over a three-year period until a transfer to the San Antonio Scorpions. Johann Smith (born April 25, 1987, in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American former soccer player who played as a forward, winger, and left back. Career Youth Smith grew up in Bloomfield, Connecticut and attended the Watkinson School, where he played varsity soccer for four years, garnering All-State honors during his junior and senior campaigns. Sainey Nyassi (born January 31, 1989) is a Gambian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. Club career Sainey Nyassi began his career in the Gambia, playing in the GFA League First Division for Gambia Ports Authority. Allan Hugues Zebie (born May 29, 1993) is a soccer coach and former player. Born in France, Zebie was called up to Canadian youth teams as a player. Early life Zebie was born in Paris, France to parents of Ivorian descent and moved to Lachine, Quebec at age nine, later moving to Brossard, Quebec.
