2014–15 Irish Premier League Season
The 2014–15 Irish Premier League season was the 42nd running of Basketball Ireland's premier men's basketball competition. The season featured 10 teams from across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with the regular season beginning on 4 October 2014 and ending on 15 March 2015. In 2014–15, UCC Demons created history in Irish basketball by becoming the first side ever to remain undefeated for an entire season. They claimed the end-of-season Champions Trophy on 29 March 2015 to add to their League and Cup titles in a campaign that saw them win 24 games in a row. In a thrilling Champions Trophy final in Galway, Demons saw off Templeogue 85–73 behind the play of player-coach Colin O'Reilly. Premier League (Ireland)
The Super League (formerly known as SuperLeague and Premier League) is the top tier men's basketball league in Ireland. The league has 14 teams (13 in the Republic of Ireland and one in Northern Ireland). The league is an active member of Basketball Ireland, which is recognised by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in Ireland. Neptune hold the record for most league titles, having won the competition 11 times. Killester Basketball Club
Killester Basketball Club is an Irish basketball club based in Dublin. Established in 1967 by Michael Casey, Killester is one of the oldest and most successful civilian basketball clubs in Ireland. The club's senior men's and women's representative teams both play in Ireland's top national leagues. Killester have training and playing facilities at St. David's CBS in Artane and St. Fintan's High School in Sutton. The Super League teams play their home games at the IWA Sports Hall in Clontarf. History In 1973, Killester BC entered a men's team into the Irish National League for the competition's inaugural season. Between 1975 and 1977, Killester won three championships in a row. The University of Limerick (UL) ( ga, Ollscoil Luimnigh) is a Public university, public research university institution in Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. UL Eagles
Limerick Sport Eagles is an Irish basketball team based in Limerick. The team competes in the National League Division One and plays its home games at the University of Limerick's Sport Arena. History Early years Prior to the late 1990s, Limerick's presence in the Irish Super League (Ireland), National League was represented by Marathon Basketball Club. In 1999, Marathon's National League team became known as Burger King Limerick. Belfield, Dublin
Belfield is a small enclave, not quite a suburb, in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. It is synonymous with the main campus of University College Dublin. Mardyke Arena
The Mardyke, also referred as the Mardyke Sports Ground, is the sport and fitness facilities used by sports team representing University College Cork, the general student body, and members of the public. It is based in the Cork district of Mardyke. UCC acquired the grounds in 1911, and rented the main pitch to rugby, soccer, hockey and hurling clubs in the city for a 15% cut of the gate receipts. Outdoors, there are floodlit grass and all-weather pitches, used for soccer, rugby, Gaelic games, and hockey. Kayakers train in the adjacent North channel of the River Lee. There is a tartan track for athletics, where the Cork City Sports are held annually. The most notable performance came in the hammer throw on 3 July 1984, when Yuriy Sedykh and Sergey Litvinov broke the world record six times in one evening. Inchicore
Inchicore () is a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. Located approximately west of the city centre, Inchicore was originally a small village separate from Dublin. The village developed around Richmond Barracks (built 1810) and Inchicore railway works (built 1846), before being incorporated into the expanding city bounds. Swords Thunder
Swords Thunder was an Irish basketball team based in Dublin. The team competed in the Super League and played its home games at the ALSAA Sports Complex. History Dublin Thunder In 2010, Dublin Thunder Basketball Club was founded. The following year, founder member Dave Baker became the inaugural coach of club's senior men's representative team. Aligned with Dublin Business School, Baker applied for national league status, but rulings required them to have played at least one year at local level before playing in the national league.
