The 2014–15 Goa Professional League (also known as the Bharti Airtel, Airtel Goa Pro League for sponsorship reasons) will be the 17th season of top-tier football in the Indian state of Goa. It began on 24 August 2014. Sporting Clube de Goa, Sporting Goa are the defending champions. Goa Professional League
The Goa Professional League (abbreviated as GPL, also known as the Selvel Goa Pro League for sponsorship reasons) is the premier state-level football league in Goa, India. It is organised by the Goa Football Association. History The official league in Goa, called the ''First division'', began in 1951 and was organised by the Conselho de Desportos. The first Llague champion of Goa was Clube Desportivo de Chinchinim who beat Football Club of Siolim, to clinch the title. League continued under the aegis of the Conselho de Desportos until the season of 1958–59, with Clube de Desportos de Vasco da Gama taking the title that year. In 1959, the Goa Football Association was established as the official administrative body of football and from that season onwards the league was conducted by GFA. Sporting Club De Goa
Sporting Clube de Goa, simply known as Sporting Goa (also known by its abbreviation SCG), is an Indian professional football club based in Panaji, in the Indian state of Goa, that competes in Goa Professional League. The club has also competed in the I-League, then top flight of Indian football league system. It is built on the lines of Portuguese club Sporting CP and adopting a similar club crest. Its Futsal section competes in the Futsal Club Championship, top tier futsal club competition of the country. Richard Costa (born 5 January 1992) is an Indian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Churchill Brothers in the I-League. He is currently the captain of the team. Early life Costa was born in Navelim, a town in the Indian State of Goa. He began playing football at an early age and played for a local club, Juniors Salunkas, as a child. He idolized Goan footballer and midfielder Climax Lawrence, and began playing in that position. Douhou Sey Djidja Pierre (born 21 December 1987) is an Ivorian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for DSK Shivajians in the Indian I-League. Career Early career Born in Abidjan, Douhou started his career at the JMG Academy which was founded by former France international Jean-Marc Guillou. Duler Stadium
Duler Stadium is a football stadium located in Mapusa, Goa, India. It is the former home of local I-League clubs who participated in the highest level of football in the country. Dempo SC, Salgaocar FC, and Sporting Clube de Goa use the venue for most of their home games. It also serves as home ground for other Goa Professional League clubs such as Vasco. Zohib Islam Amiri ( prs, ذهیب اسلام امیری; born 15 February 1990) is a professional footballer from Afghanistan who plays as a centre-back for A.S. Blainville and the Afghanistan national team. Sesa Football Academy (SFA) is a football academy based in Sanquelim, Goa. Originally founded in the 1960s as Sesa Sports Club, its football team competes in the Goa Professional League, and previously participated in NFL II and I-League 2nd Division. SFA is a unit of Sesa Community Development Foundation, which is promoted by Vedanta Limited with the objective of service to the community in its operational areas. SFA began functioning in June 1999. All expenses including the academic studies are taken care of by the academy.
