The 2014 Just Retirement World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton on Sea, Great Yarmouth, England, between January 10–25, 2014. It was won for the first time by Scotland's Darren Burnett. It was sponsored by Just Retirement Group. It was also notable for Shaun Williamson singing (Something Inside) So Strong before the men's singles final. Great Yarmouth
Great Yarmouth (), often called Yarmouth, is a seaside town and unparished area in, and the main administrative centre of, the Borough of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England; it straddles the River Yare and is located east of Norwich. Paul James Foster (born 13 March 1973) is a multiple world bowls champion who lives in Troon, Scotland. He plays at Troon Portland (Outdoor) & Ambassador Prestwick (Indoor) bowling clubs. Bowling career Indoor career Foster is the second most prolific winner of the World Indoor Championship singles title, behind six-times winner, pairs partner and close friend Alex Marshall. He has five wins from seven final appearances (in 1998, 2001, 2005, 2011 and 2017), with his two defeats coming in the 2013 final to Stewart Anderson and in the 2022 final to Les Gillett. In addition, Foster has won another eight world indoor titles, bringing his career record to 13. Andrew Edward Thomson Order of the British Empire, MBE is a former international lawn and indoor bowler. Known as Andy Thomson he was born in Fife, Scotland, on 26 November 1955, and represented Scotland before deciding to represent England. Bowls career Thomson won the Buckhaven Club Championship at the age of 16 and one year later was the Fife under-30 champion. In 1978 he won the Scottish junior indoor title. After moving to Kent he claimed the List of Bowls England champions, 1981 EBA national singles. He represented England at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, England in the singles, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Jason John Greenslade (born 6 March 1970) is a Welsh international indoor and lawn bowler. After moving to Guernsey in 2022 he later represented them in competition. Bowls career Outdoors Greenslade took up bowling at the age of eight after his parents (both Welsh internationals) introduced him to the sport. In 2001, he won the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic singles title. Robert Paxton is an English international outdoor and indoor bowls player. Bowls career Robert is from Crediton, Devon and plays out of the Exonia club indoors and out of Crediton BC. and won the 2011 Scottish International Open. Gary Kelly (born 10 May 1989) is an Australian based Northern Irish international indoor and lawn bowler. Bowls career Outdoors He won a bronze medal in the Men's singles at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Robert Arthur Weale (born in Hereford on 3 April 1963), is a Welsh international lawn and indoor bowls player. Weale is originally from Presteigne and was educated at John Beddoes School, but now lives in Hereford. In 2022, he was inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of fame. Bowls career Weale made his international debut in 1982. He was the youngest competitor in the 1984 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Aberdeen, where he competed in the triples event.
