2014 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship
The 2014 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship was the 114th staging of the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Waterford County Board in 1887. The championship began on 25 April 2014 and ended on 5 October 2014. Passage are the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the quarter-final stages. Ballygunner won the title following a 2–16 to 0–9 defeat of Mount Sion in the final, having remained undefeated during the whole championship campaign. Ardmore were relegated having lost all their group games and the relegation play-off. Waterford Senior Hurling Championship
The Waterford Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Waterford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1897 for the top hurling teams in the county of Waterford in Ireland. The series of games are played during the spring, summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Walsh Park in October. Initially played as a knock-out competition, the championship currently features a group stage followed by a knock-out stage. The Waterford County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship. The winners of the Waterford county final join the champions of the other hurling counties to contest the provincial championship. De La Salle Gaelic football and hurling club is based in Waterford City, Ireland. The club competes in Gaelic games competitions organised by Waterford GAA board. The club has won the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship twice and the Waterford Senior Football Championship on 6 occasions. While having a notable record in gaelic football, today the club mainly focuses on hurling. Walsh Park
Walsh Park ( ga, Páirc Breathnach) is a GAA stadium in Waterford, Ireland named after Willie Walsh, a well-known referee and long time campaigner for Gaelic games in Waterford. It is one of the two homes of the Waterford Gaelic football and hurling teams, the other being Fraher Field in Dungarvan. The two grounds are rivals for important games, former Waterford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald saying "There's this endless battle between Walsh Park and Fraher Field, a political battle almost. If one field gets a game, the other has to get the next one. Dungarvan was a nice field, but my personal preference was always Walsh Park, because I felt it had more of the feel of a fortress." Fraher Field
Fraher Field ( ga, Páirc Uí Fhearachair) is a GAA stadium, located in Dungarvan, County Waterford, owned by the Waterford GAA County Board. It has a total capacity of around 15,000. History Dan Fraher (1852–1929), an Irish language activist and scholar and promoter of Gaelic games, leased the land in 1885 and bought it outright in 1912. The stadium was renamed in his honour in 1995. With the obvious exception of Croke Park, Fraher Field has been the venue for more all-Ireland senior hurling finals than any other venue, having hosted the 1903, 1905, 1907 and 1911 deciders. Various improvements have been made to the stadium since 1995, including the addition of a new stand on one side of the pitch, and the improvement of standing facilities in general. Ballyduff Upper GAA
Ballyduff Upper GAA Club is a GAA club based in the west County Waterford village of Ballyduff, Republic of Ireland. The club has won the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship three times, in 1982, 1987 and most recently in 2007. While mainly a hurling club, the club has had some success in Gaelic football, winning the Waterford Senior Football Championship in 1924. Ballyduff won the 2007 Waterford Senior Championship after beating Ballygunner on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-14. Ballyduff are the first West Waterford side to win the county championship since 1993. Tallow GAA ( ga, CLG Tulach an Iarainn) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Tallow, in west County Waterford, Ireland. The club has won the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship four times, first in 1936 and more recently in 1980, 1984 and 1985. Tallow presently have four players on the Waterford county panel, James Murray, Aidan Kearney, Mark O' Brien and Thomas Ryan. Tallow GAA's ground is called Páirc Eamonn de Paor after the former Waterford hurler & coach, Ned Power who taught in the local school through the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s. Dungarvan GAA is a GAA club based in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Republic of Ireland. The club participates in both hurling and Gaelic football. The club currently heads the roll of honour in the Waterford Senior Football Championship with a total of 19 wins. Lismore GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Lismore, County Waterford, Ireland. The club enters teams in both GAA codes each year, which includes two adult hurling teams and one adult Gaelic football team in the Waterford County Championships. Abbeyside GAA
Abbeyside () is a townland in Dungarvan in County Waterford, Ireland. It lies on the east bank of the Colligan River. History MacGrath's Castle was a notable landmark in Abbeyside, overlooking Dungarvan Harbour, until it collapsed in January 1916. It was situated at Friar's Walk in Abbeyside, near the Augustinian abbey. It was a six-storey tower house, reputedly built by the MacGrath family, and labelled MacCragh's Castle in the Civil Survey of 1654. While, as of the mid-18th century, it was still in a "good state of preservation", by the mid-20th century only fragments of the walls remained.
