2014 Supersport World Championship
The 2014 Supersport World Championship was the sixteenth season of the Supersport World Championship—the eighteenth taking into account the two held under the name of Supersport World Series. It was run over 11 rounds, commencing on 23 February at Phillip Island in Australia and ending on 2 November at Losail in Qatar. The riders' championship title was won for the first time by a Dutch rider, as Michael van der Mark of the Pata Honda World Supersport team won six races, and achieved ten top-two placings en route to the championship. Van der Mark finished 82 points clear of his nearest rival in the championship, MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider Jules Cluzel, who won a trio of races during the season. Third place in the championship went to Florian Marino of the Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres team, who achieved four podiums in 2014. 2014 Superbike World Championship
The 2014 Superbike World Championship was the twenty-seventh season of the Superbike World Championship. The season saw the revision of the Superpole format: riders placed from eleventh to twentieth position in the combined classification of the first three practice sessions were admitted to Superpole 1, then the two fastest SP1 riders progressed to Superpole 2, which finally awarded the pole position, joining the ten fastest riders of practice. Sylvain Guintoli became the Superbike World Champion at the last race, prevailing over Tom Sykes by six points in the standings. The Algarve International Circuit ( pt, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve), commonly referred to as Portimão Circuit, is a race circuit located in Portimão, Algarve region, Portugal. Donington Park is a motorsport circuit located near Castle Donington in Leicestershire, England. The circuit business is now owned by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation, and the surrounding Donington Park Estate, still owned by the Wheatcroft family, is currently under lease by MotorSport Vision until 2038. Kev Alexander Coghlan (born 23 June 1988) is a British motorcycle racer. He has won the European Junior Supersport title in 2008 and the Spanish CEV Supersport Championship and the European Supersport title in 2009; he has also ridden in the 125cc and Moto2 World Championships, the Supersport World Championship and the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. Roberto Tamburini (born 15 January 1991 in Rimini) is an Italian motorcycle racer. For 2022 he was a late addition to the 2022 Superbike World Championship, entered as riding for a one-bike Motoxracing Yamaha team. Tamburini has competed in the European Superstock 1000 Championship and the CIV Superbike Championship aboard an BMW S1000RR. Welkom () is the second-largest city in the Free State province of South Africa, located about northeast of Bloemfontein which is the provincial capital. Phakisa Freeway is a motor racing circuit located between Welkom and Odendaalsrus, South Africa. It is one of the few oval speedways outside of the United States and the only one in Africa. History Phakisa Freeway was built on the same site as the former Goldfields Raceway, which closed in 1997. The current track opened in 1999. It consists of a road course and a oval course. The road course uses the oval's pit lane as its backstraight and crosses the oval's backstretch on two times.
