2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament was held at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, from May 14 through 18, 2014. won their sixteenth tournament championship, and second in a row, to earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. The event was originally scheduled for LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, Texas, but was moved due to concerns about player safety. The double elimination tournament features the top four teams from each division, leaving one team from each division out of the field. Mississippi Valley State and Southern did not qualify for the Tournament. Seeding and format The top four finishers in each division will be seeded one through four, with the top seed from each division facing the fourth seed from the opposite division in the first round, and so on. Omar Johnson (baseball)
Omar Johnson is an American college baseball coach and former outfielder. Johnson is the head coach of the Jackson State Tigers baseball team. Early life Johnson was raised in Miami, Florida and attended Miami Senior High School. Johnson attended the University of North Alabama, where he played for the North Alabama Lions baseball team as an outfielder. Coaching career Johnson served as an assistant for North Alabama before being named the head coach at Jackson State University in June 2006. Johnson coached the German national baseball team at the World Baseball Challenge in 2009. Wesley Barrow Stadium is a 650-seat baseball and softball stadium located in the Pontchartrain Park, New Orleans, Pontchartrain Park section of New Orleans, Louisiana. Named in memory of Negro league baseball manager (baseball), manager Wesley Barrow, a longtime prominent figure in the New Orleans baseball community, the stadium includes a 200-square-foot climate-controlled press box, a public address system and LED scoreboard. The 2014 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, May 30, 2014 as part of the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 team double elimination tournament concluded with the 2014 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, which started on June 14, 2014, and ended on June 25, 2014 with the Vanderbilt Commodores upsetting the 3rd seed Virginia Cavaliers 3–2 in the decisive Game 3. The 64 participating NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of an eligible 298 teams. A total of 31 teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conferences, and 33 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. LaGrave Field is an abandoned baseball park in Fort Worth, Texas. It was primarily used for baseball and was the home field of the Fort Worth Cats independent minor league baseball team. Its original version was the home of the predecessor Panthers/Cats team of the Texas League from 1926–1958; the American Association (20th century), American Association in 1959; and then in the Texas League again in 1964.
