2014 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2014 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament was held from May 21–24. The top eight regular season finishers of the league's fourteen teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at Bear Stadium on the campus of Central Arkansas University in Conway, Arkansas. The event returned to a campus environment for one year before again being played at neutral Sugar Land, Texas in 2015 and 2016. won their first tournament championship and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. 2014 Southland Conference Softball Tournament
The 2014 Southland Conference tournament was held at North Oak Park on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, from May 8 through 11, 2014. The tournament winner, Northwestern State earned the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I softball tournament. Due to weather delays, the championship broadcast on ESPN3 was canceled, leaving the entire tournament to air on the Southland Digital Network. Southland Conference assistant commissioner Chris Mycoskie and former Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Kati Morse called the action. Nicholas James Heath (born November 27, 1993) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Chicago Dogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals and Arizona Diamondbacks. Career Heath attended Junction City High School in Junction City, Kansas. Undrafted out of high school, Heath attended Northwestern State University. He redshirted his freshman year and played the following three seasons of college baseball for the Northwestern State Demons baseball, Demons (2014-2016). Jameson Fisher
Jameson Fisher (born February 6, 1995) is an American professional baseball outfielder who is a free agent. Career Fisher attended Zachary High School in Zachary, Louisiana. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 24th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, but declined to sign a minor league contract and instead attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he played college baseball. He began college baseball playing catcher and first baseman. After tearing the labrum in his right shoulder, he underwent surgery and missed the 2015 season. In the following season as a senior, Fisher led the NCAA in hitting with a .424 batting average, 11 home runs, and 66 RBIs. He also scored 49 runs and stole 15 bases. Over his college career, Fisher had a batting average of .375 with 14 homers and 132 RBIs, stealing 32 stolen bases. 2014 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2014 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, May 30, 2014 as part of the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 team double elimination tournament concluded with the 2014 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, which started on June 14, 2014, and ended on June 25, 2014 with the Vanderbilt Commodores upsetting the 3rd seed Virginia Cavaliers 3–2 in the decisive Game 3. The 64 participating NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of an eligible 298 teams. A total of 31 teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conferences, and 33 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. Matt Riser
Matt Riser is an American baseball coach and former player, who is the current head baseball coach of the Memphis Tigers. He played college baseball at Pearl River Community College and Tulane from 2003–2006. He served as the head coach of the Southeastern Louisiana Lions (2014–2023). He grew up in Picayune, Mississippi, where he played baseball with Major League Baseball player Rhyne Hughes. After a playing career at Pearl River Community College and Tulane and an appearance in the 2005 College World Series, Riser coached for one season as an assistant with the Green Wave under Rick Jones. He then moved to Southeastern Louisiana for six seasons. After head coach Jay Artigues resigned to become athletic director following the 2013 season, Riser was named interim head coach.
