2014 SANFL Season
The 2014 South Australian National Football League season (officially the SANFL IGA League) was the 135th season of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) Australian rules football competition. 2014 introduced a number of changes to the league. The size of the league increased from 9 clubs to 10 clubs, after the South Australian Football Commission granted the Australian Football League's Adelaide Football Club a licence to field a reserves team in the competition. Adelaide Oval replaced Football Park as headquarters of the SANFL, resulting in the renovated venue hosting one SANFL minor round match (Anzac Day) and all six SANFL finals matches. The season was shortened to finish a week before the AFL Grand Final, instead of a week after, as had been the case for most years since 1980. Norwood were the premiers for the 2014 season, after they defeated Port Adelaide by 4 points in the Grand Final in front of a crowd of 38,644, the largest such crowd since 1999. ... Norwood Football Club
Norwood Football Club, nicknamed the Redlegs, is an Australian rules football club competing in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in the state of South Australia. Its home ground is Coopers Stadium (Norwood Oval), which is often referred to as "The Parade". It is one of the two traditional powerhouse clubs of the SANFL, the other being Port Adelaide, who together have won half of all SANFL premierships (see Port Adelaide–Norwood SANFL rivalry). Glenelg Oval
Glenelg Oval (currently ACH Group Stadium and formerly Gliderol Stadium @ Glenelg) is located on Brighton Road, Glenelg East, South Australia. The ground is primarily used for Australian rules football and cricket and is the home ground for the Glenelg Football Club in the SANFL competition. It is also the home of the Glenelg Cricket Club, and hosts local school football matches, with the Glenelg Primary School located beyond the southern end of the ground. with two seated grandstands holding 1,500. Norwood Oval
Norwood Oval (currently known as Coopers Stadium due to sponsorship from the Adelaide-based Coopers Brewery) is a suburban oval in the western end of Norwood, an inner eastern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is owned by Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council but managed by the Norwood Football Club. Though mainly used for Australian rules football, the oval has been used for a variety of other sporting and community events including baseball, soccer, rugby league and American football. It is the home ground for the Norwood Football Club ("The Redlegs") in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and the primary home ground of the Adelaide Crows in AFL Women's (AFLW). Showdown (AFL)
The Showdown is an Australian rules football game played by the two Australian Football League (AFL) teams from South Australia, the Adelaide and Port Adelaide football clubs. The first AFL premiership fixture between the two clubs took place on 20 April 1997. The South Australian Brewing Company, makers of West End beers, were the first sponsors of the game and decided that the "Showdown" would be an appropriate name as a promotional opportunity for games between these two clubs, since it was the first time two South Australian teams had played against each other in the AFL. Glenelg Football Club is an Australian rules football team, which plays in the South Australian National Football League. The club is known as the "Tigers" (or the "Bays"), and their home ground is ACH Group Stadium (formerly Glenelg Oval), located in the southern coastal suburb of Glenelg East, South Australia. Club history The inaugural meeting of the Glenelg Football Club was held at the Glenelg Town Hall on Wednesday 10 March 1920, to form a club for players west of South Road to play in the B Grade. Though the Adelaide Football Club was formed in 1990 for the national AFL competition, it was not until 2014 that the club was granted a license to field a dedicated reserves team in the SANFL.
