2014 Richmond Spiders Football Team
The 2014 Richmond Spiders football team represented the University of Richmond in the 2014 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by third-year head coach Danny Rocco and played their home games at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium. The Spiders were a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. They finished the season 9–5, 5–3 in CAA play to finish in fourth place. They received an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs where they defeated Morgan State in the first round before losing in the second round to Coastal Carolina. Danny Rocco
Daniel Christopher Rocco (born July 16, 1960)''1995 University of Texas Football Media Guide'' p. 94 is an American football coach. He is currently the head coach of the VMI Keydets. Rocco has previously been the head coach of the Liberty Flames, Richmond Spiders, and Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens. He is also a former assistant coach of the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). Rocco earned his bachelor's degree in speech communication from Wake Forest University in 1984. He added an education and counseling master's degree from Wake Forest in 1987. Playing career Rocco played linebacker for Joe Paterno at Pennsylvania State University, earning letters in 1979 and 1980. He played in the 1979 Liberty Bowl and the 1980 Fiesta Bowl for the Nittany Lions. Rocco transferred to Wake Forest University, where he started for two seasons at outside linebacker under head coach Al Groh, in 1982 and 1983. Williams Stadium
Arthur L. Williams Stadium is a 25,000-seat football stadium located on the campus of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, USA. The stadium was built in 1989 and plays host to Liberty Flames football, which is a part of the NCAA Division I - Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). A new field house has recently been constructed at the north end of the stadium. This new facility houses a new home locker room, coaches offices, meeting rooms and training facility as well as a weight room. In the 2009 off season, Liberty University added a video scoreboard on the north end of the field. The video scoreboard measured tall and wide. This video board was replaced by a massive new high-definition video board in time for the 2018 football season. In September 2011, a ribbon video board was added to the facade of the upper deck. Orono, Maine
Orono () is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. Located on the Penobscot and Stillwater rivers, it was first settled by American colonists in 1774. They named it in honor of Chief Joseph Orono, a sachem of the indigenous Penobscot nation who long occupied this territory. In the nineteenth century, the town became a center of the lumber industry. Sawmills on the rivers were powered by the water, and logs were floated downriver on the Penobscot for shipping and export from coastal ports. Since 1865 it has been the location of the University of Maine, established as a land-grant institution and the state's flagship educational institution. Morse Field at Harold Alfond Sports Stadium is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Orono, Maine. The stadium opened as Alumni Field in 1947 and underwent extensive renovations from 1996 to 1998. It is home to the University of Maine Black Bears football team. The wood and steel grandstands, built in the 1940s, were condemned and demolished in 1996, replaced with the current east grandstand, along with a temporary structure on the west side, adjacent to Alfond Arena. The current west grandstand, lights, press and luxury levels, as well as concessions and restroom amenities were completed prior to the 1998 season. Elon, North Carolina
Elon () is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Burlington metropolitan statistical area. The population as of the 2020 census was 11,324. The town of Elon is home to Elon University. Elon began in 1881 as a North Carolina Railroad depot in between the stations of Goldsboro and Charlotte, called "Mill Point” because it was envisioned to be a shipping point for area cotton mills. Locals called it “Boone’s Crossing.” Because of a growing population, a post office was built, which established a more permanent residency in 1888. In 1889, the local Christian Assembly created an institution of higher learning called the “Graham Normal College”. The founders of Elon College named the school “Elon”, because they understood that to be the Hebrew word for oak, and the area contained many oak trees. Rhodes Stadium is an 11,250-seat multi-purpose stadium in Elon, North Carolina. Named for trustee Dusty Rhodes, his wife, Peggy, and their family, the stadium opened in 2001 and is home to the Elon University Phoenix football team.
