2014 Portland Timbers Season
The 2014 Portland Timbers season was the 4th season for the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. Background The Timbers finished the 2013 season in 1st place in the Western Conference, however it wasn't until December 13, 2013 that it was announced they would be playing in the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League due to a rule change. Replacing the MLS Cup runner-up, the top team in the non-Supporter Shield conference would get the spot in Champions League. The Timbers announced they would be partnering with the San Jose Earthquakes and USL Pro team Sacramento Republic FC on January 23. The Timbers will send 2 players on loan to Sacramento Republic and not participate in the MLS Reserve League. Portland Timbers
The Portland Timbers are an American professional men's soccer club based in Portland, Oregon. The Timbers compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The Timbers have played their home games at Providence Park since 2011, when the team began play as an expansion team in the league. The club was founded in 2009, when the city of Portland was awarded an expansion berth to Major League Soccer. The team operating rights are owned by Peregrine Sports under the majority ownership of Merritt Paulson, whose companies had acquired the then-USL Pro team in 2007 and later established the Portland Thorns women's team in 2012 (all MLS franchises are centrally owned by the league itself, which grants operating rights and privileges to the individual club "owners," who are also shareholders in MLS). Aurélien Collin
Aurélien Collin (; born 8 March 1986) is a French former professional footballer who played as a defender. He spent the majority of his career playing in Major League Soccer. He is currently an assistant coach with Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo. Playing career Europe Collin began his career in the youth ranks of French side Sedan in 2004 and remained with the club until joining Amiens one year later. In 2007, he left for Spain joining the youth ranks of Mallorca. Michael Nanchoff
Michael Nanchoff (born September 23, 1988) is an American retired soccer player who is currently an assistant coach for the Akron Zips men's soccer team. Career College and Amateur Before college, Nanchoff played for Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio where he won an OHSAA State Championship in 2006. He then spent four years at the University of Akron playing in three after redshirting the 2008 season. He skipped his final year of NCAA eligibility to sign a lucrative Generation Adidas contract after being named one of the top collegiate players by several sources. Ntokozo "Schillo" Tshuma (born September 21, 1992) is a Zimbabwean footballer. Career On January 16, 2014, Tshuma was drafted 17th overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by the Portland Timbers. Mamadou Danso
Mamadou "Futty" Danso (born April 27, 1983) is a Gambian professional footballer who plays as a centre back. Career College and amateur Danso was recruited to play soccer for North Carolina Wesleyan College and also went on to play two years of college soccer at Southern Polytechnic State University, where he was a two-time All-Southern States Athletic Conference selection. Danso became SPSU’s first All-America selection in 2008, after leading the conference in scoring with 19 goals, and finished his college career with 35 goals in total. Gastón Nicolás Fernández (born 12 October 1983) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a forward. He spent most of his senior club career in Argentine Primera División side Estudiantes. Club career Nicknamed ''La Gata'' (''The Cat''), Fernández began his professional career with River Plate. MLS Reserve League
The MLS Reserve League was a soccer league for the reserve teams of Major League Soccer with teams in both the United States and Canada. It was inaugurated on April 9, 2005, with the first official reserve game being a 2–0 victory by Chivas USA over the host San Jose Earthquakes. The reserve division disbanded after the 2008 season but returned in 2011 with 18 clubs split into East, Central, and West divisions.
