2014 New York City Marathon
The 2014 New York City Marathon was the 44th running of the annual marathon race in New York City, United States, which took place on November 2. The elite men's race was won by Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich of Kenya with a time of 2:10:59 and the women's race by Mary Jepkosgei Keitany, also of Kenya, with a time of 2:25:07. It was the largest marathon ever, with a record number of 50,869 starters. With 50,564 finishers (30,035 men and 20,398 women), having an average finish time of 4:34:45, the race also broke the record for most finishers. The winds were exceptional this year, forcing race officials to move the start line of the wheelchair and handcycle competitions to the Brooklyn side of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, shortening the course to 23.2 miles. Greenpoint, Brooklyn
Greenpoint is the northernmost neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, in the U.S. state of New York. 2014 Boston Marathon
The 2014 Boston Marathon took place in Boston, Massachusetts, on Monday, April 21 (Patriots' Day). It was the 118th edition of the mass-participation marathon. The race is organized by the Boston Athletic Association. On account of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, extra security measures were implemented. The 2014 Marathon had about 36,000 registered participants, second only to the 1996 race in number of entries. The ''Boston Globe'' reported that over a million people were expected to line the marathon route to watch the race, twice the number who attend during a typical year. Yuki Kawauchi
is a Japanese marathon runner. He came to prominence after running the 2011 Tokyo Marathon in 2:08:37, finishing as the first Japanese citizen and third overall. He was known as the "citizen runner" given that he used to work full-time for the government of Saitama Prefecture and trained in his time off with his own expenses without any sponsorship. Kawauchi won the 2018 Boston Marathon. In 2020, he left his job in local government and became a full-time professional runner. Kawauchi is a frequent competitor, entering many races each year (averaging a marathon per month) ranging in distance from the 1500 m to the 50 km ultramarathon. Nicholas Arciniaga
Nicholas Arciniaga is an American long-distance runner who competed at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and finished 7th at the 2014 Boston Marathon. Running career High school Arciniaga attended Fountain Valley High School, where he ran cross country and track under coach Barry Migliorini. He started out as an 800-meter runner before he made a transition to longer-distance events. Collegiate Arciniaga competed in college for the Cal State Fullerton Titans and graduated in 2006. Ryan Patrick Vail (born March 19, 1986) is an American long-distance runner. Vail had a college running career at Oklahoma State University, where his success led him to road race competitively. He is best known for blogging his high mileage training. He has been featured in publications such as Runner's World for his training methods. Vail also works for Brooks Sports as a sponsored athlete. He is married to his former Oklahoma State cross-country teammate, Eva Tomankova. Peter Cheruiyot Kirui (born 2 January 1988) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes over 10,000 metres on the track and in road running competitions. He was the 2011 Kenyan champion over 10,000 m and came sixth at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. Geoffrey Kiprono Mutai (born 7 October 1981) is a Kenyan long distance runner who specialises in road running competitions. On 18 April 2011 at the Boston Marathon, Mutai ran the fastest marathon ever at the time in a time of 2 hours 3 minutes 2 seconds (4:41 per mile pace / 2:54 per kilometer pace), though the time was not recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations as a world record since the Boston course does not meet the criteria to be eligible for the mark. Stephen Kiprotich
Stephen Kiprotich ("KIP-roh-tich", born 27 February 1989) is a Ugandan long-distance runner. He is an Olympic marathon champion, having won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Kiprotich also won a gold at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. He is the second person, after Gezahegne Abera, to follow an Olympic marathon title with a world championship gold medal for the same event. Kiprotich became 2012 Olympic champion with a winning time of 2:08:01 in hot, sunny, and humid conditions. Gebregziabher Gebremariam (born September 10, 1984 in Tigray) is a retired Ethiopian long-distance runner. He established himself at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, winning the junior title in 2002 and two silver medals in the senior races in 2004. Lelisa Desisa Benti (born 14 January 1990) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialises in road running competitions. Desisa gained his first international medal at the 2009 African Junior Athletics Championships, where he took the 10,000 metres gold medal.
