2014 NLL Season
The 2014 National Lacrosse League season, the 28th in the history of the NLL, began on December 28, 2013 and ended on May 31, 2014, the date of Game 2 and 3 of the championship series. After finishing the regular season atop the East Division, the Rochester Knighthawks continued winning in the playoffs and took their third consecutive Champion's Cup, the first time a team has won the league title three straight years. National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is a men's professional box lacrosse league in North America. The league is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NLL currently has fifteen teams: ten in the United States and five in Canada. The NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the NHL and NBA. Unlike other box lacrosse leagues which play in the summer, the NLL plays its games in the winter and spring, from December to June. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the National Lacrosse League Cup. The NLL has averaged between 8,900 and 10,700 spectators per game each year since 2004. Box lacrosse rules The NLL plays four 15-minute quarters with 2-minute breaks between quarters and a 15-minute half-time. Colorado Mammoth
The Colorado Mammoth are a box lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League. The Mammoth have played at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, since the 2003 season. They are owned by Stan Kroenke, who is also the owner of the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Rapids of MLS. The Mammoth franchise previously played as the Baltimore Thunder from 1987 to 1999, the Pittsburgh CrosseFire in 2000, and the Washington Power from 2001 to 2002. Up until the joining of the expansion team San Diego Seals, Colorado was the only non-Canadian team in the Western Division from 2014 to 2018. They have only missed the playoffs once since moving to Colorado. Paul Dawson (lacrosse)
Paul Dawson (born September 16, 1985) is a lacrosse player who plays defense for the Rochester Knighthawks. His older brother Dan, plays for the Toronto Rock. Dawson was drafted as a goaltender in the first round (7th overall) in the 2006 National Lacrosse League entry draft. As a goaltender, Dawson played with the Brampton Excelsiors in the Senior A Major Series Lacrosse League. The San Jose Stealth converted him from a goaltender to a defenseman starting with the 2008 NLL season. He was then traded to the Boston Blazers, where he played two seasons with his brother Dan. In 2010, Dawson was traded to the Calgary Roughnecks, who subsequently traded him to the Philadelphia Wings,. A year later, Dawson was reunited with his brother when Dan Dawson was acquired in the Boston Blazers dispersal draft. Stephen Keogh (lacrosse)
Stephen Keogh (born 10 May 1982) is a former Irish rugby union player. Early life Keogh was born in Limerick, Ireland, and grew up in Dromkeen, County Limerick. He attended St. Munchin's College before playing in the second-row for Ireland U21s in the World Cup in Johannesburg in June 2002. In the following season, playing number 8, Keogh led the U21s to Six Nations Championship victories over Scotland, Italy, France and England. His side's only defeat that year came against eventual champions Wales, the Irish defeated by the narrowest of margins (20–19) in Ebbw Vale. Craig Point
Craig Point (born January 19, 1986), is an Iroquois lacrosse player who currently plays for the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League and the Six Nations Chiefs of Major Series Lacrosse. He was born in Ohsweken, Ontario, and comes from the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation. Amateur career Point led the Six Nations Arrows of the OLA Junior A Lacrosse League to four straight league championships and a Minto Cup national championship in 2007. He also played on the Iroquois Nationals team in the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, leading the team in scoring and earning a silver medal. Mike Poulin (born December 17, 1985 in Kitchener, Ontario) is a professional lacrosse goaltender wearing #30 for the Georgia Swarm in the National Lacrosse League. He formerly played for thCalgary Roughnecks the Toronto Rock and the Boston Blazers. He also plays for the Brooklin Redmen and formerly played with Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks and Six Nations Chiefs of Major Series Lacrosse. Dane Dobbie (born December 1, 1986 in Elora, Ontario) is a professional lacrosse player for the San Diego Seals in the National Lacrosse League. Dobbie comes from a lacrosse family. His grandfather, Bob Dobbie, is a member of Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame and his father Larry also competed at a high level. Cory Vitarelli (born June 30, 1985 in Peterborough, Ontario) is a Canadian professional lacrosse player who plays for the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League and the Peterborough Lakers of Major Series Lacrosse. Vitarelli scored the NLL's first ever series-ending overtime goal in a mini-game in the 2014 NLL Playoffs. National Lacrosse League career Vitarelli was signed by the Rochester Knighthawks in December 2010, while playing his final season of college hockey at the University of Prince Edward Island with the expectation that he would join the Knighthawks after his team's hockey season concluded. Shawn Evans (lacrosse)
Shawn Evans (born April 28, 1986, in Peterborough, Ontario) is a Canadian professional lacrosse player who plays for the Vancouver Warriors in the National Lacrosse League, and the Connecticut Hammerheads of Major League Lacrosse. Evans' brothers, Scott and Stephen have also played in the NLL. Evans is one of two lacrosse player in history to win the Minto Cup (the Canadian Junior lacrosse title), the Mann Cup (the Canadian Senior lacrosse title), and the NLL Champion's Cup all within 12 months of each other. 1998 NLL Season
Before the 1998 season, the Major Indoor Lacrosse League was renamed to be the National Lacrosse League, in the process increasing the length of the regular season from ten to twelve games. The first season as the NLL and the 12th season overall, began on January 3, 1998, and concluded with the second championship game on April 28. The championship was decided by a best-two-of-three series, with the Philadelphia Wings defeating the Baltimore Thunder 16-12 in the first game and 17-12 in the second. Team movement The 1998 season featured the debut of two new teams, and the removal of one.
