2014 NCAA Division I Baseball Season
The 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 14, 2014. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2014 College World Series. The College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, ended on June 25, 2014 with the final game of the best-of-three championship series between Vanderbilt and Virginia, won by Vanderbilt. 2014 Virginia Cavaliers Baseball Team
The 2014 Virginia Cavaliers baseball team represents the University of Virginia in the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season. Head Coach Brian O'Connor is in his 11th year coaching the Cavaliers, who play their home games at Davenport Field. They compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division. 2014 was a very good year for Virginia baseball. The Cavaliers made their first trip to a College World Series Finals, where they were defeated in a best-of-three game series by Vanderbilt. UVA posted a 53–16 record – its fourth 50-win season in the last five years – winning the Charlottesville Regional and Super Regional en route to its third trip to Omaha in the last six seasons. Big East Conference (1979–2013)
The Big East Conference was a collegiate athletics conference that consisted of as many as 16 universities in the eastern half of the United States from 1979 to 2013. The conference's members participated in 24 NCAA sports. The conference had a history of success at the national level in basketball throughout its history, while its shorter (1991 to 2013) football program, created by inviting one college and four other "associate members" (their football programs only) into the conference, resulted in two national championships. In basketball, Big East teams made 18 Final Four appearances and won 7 NCAA championships as Big East members through 2013 (UConn with three, Georgetown, Syracuse, Louisville and Villanova with one each). The UCF Knights baseball team represents The University of Central Florida in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I. Temple Owls Baseball
The Temple Owls baseball team was a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, until the end of the 2014 season. On December 6, 2013, Temple announced that it would cut seven sports, including baseball, at the end of the 2013–14 academic year for financial reasons. The team was a member of the American Athletic Conference in 2014. It was previously a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Big East Conference. Temple's first baseball team was fielded in 1927 and played home games at Erny Field until 2003. The team played its home games at Skip Wilson Field in Ambler from 2004 until 2013. Conference USA (C-USA or CUSA) is an intercollegiate athletic conference whose current member institutions are located within the Southern United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I in all sports. C-USA's offices are located in Dallas, Texas. History C-USA was founded in 1995 by the merger of the Metro Conference and Great Midwest Conference, two Division I conferences that did not sponsor football. However, the merger did not include either Great Midwest member Dayton or Metro members VCU and Virginia Tech.
