2014 Fundación Bus Fire
On 18 May 2014, a bus carrying 49 passengers caught on fire in Fundación, Colombia. According to different sources, 32 children, 33 children or 31 children and one adult died as a result. The bus driver was arrested soon after the fire. Events The bus was returning from an event at a Christian church in Fundación. The bus was having problems, so the driver stopped and attempted to fix them. He began pouring fuel into the engine through the floor of the cabin. This, along with a gasoline container that was already inside the bus, set the bus on fire. Only 18 of the passengers managed to escape; the others died, despite the efforts of local residents. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos expressed his condolences for the victims on Twitter. He also traveled to Fundación to comfort those affected. Fundación
Fundación is a town and municipality of the Colombian Department of Magdalena. Its people are known as Fundanenses. The primary economic activity is livestock-raising, for production of both meat and milk. Other crops are: corn, yuca, oranges, bananas, beans, sesame, sorghum, rice, tomatoes, and tobacco. There is also artisanal fishing. Physically, the area of Fundación consists of river valley, flood plain and some low-lying hills. 2014 Giro D'Italia
The 2014 Giro d'Italia was the 97th running of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tour races.
