2014 European Parliament Election In Veneto
The European Parliament election of 2014 took place in Italy on 25 May 2014. In Veneto the centre-left Democratic Party came largely ahead with 37.5% of the vote, followed by the Five Star Movement, distant second at 19.9%. Among the parties of the governing coalition in the region, Lega Nord (whose regional wing is Liga Veneta) came first with 15.2% of the vote, followed by Forza Italia (14.7%) and the New Centre-Right (3.5), which ran in a joint list with the Union of the Centre. The centre-right's tally, including also Brothers of Italy (3.3%), was 36.7%: it was the first time ever that the centre-left topped the centre-right in a regionwide election. The five most voted candidates in Veneto were Alessandra Moretti (Democratic Party, 138,901 preference votes), Flavio Tosi (Lega Nord, 83,171), Flavio Zanonato (Democratic Party, 80,387), Matteo Salvini (Lega Nord, 67,148) and Mara Bizzotto (Lega Nord, 42,787). 2014 European Parliament Election In Italy
The 2014 European Parliament election in Italy took place on 25 May 2014. Italy elected 73 MEPs out of 751 European Parliament seats. The governing Democratic Party (PD) won the election with 40.8% of the vote and 31 seats, followed by the Five Star Movement (21.2% and 17 seats) and Forza Italia (16.8% and 13 seats). As a result, the PD was the second largest national party in the European Parliament by number of seats after the German CDU/CSU and the largest among the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. The PD's score was also the best result for an Italian party in a nationwide election since the 1958 general election, when the Christian Democracy won 42.4% of the vote. Flavio Zanonato
Flavio Zanonato (born 24 July 1950 in Padua) is an Italian politician. He is the former mayor of Padua. Career A long-time member of the Italian Communist Party and of its successor parties, he joined the Democratic Party. After two terms as mayor of Padua (1993–1995, when he replaced Paolo Giaretta, and 1995–1999), he was defeated by Giustina Mistrello Destro in 1999. From 2000 to 2004 he was floor leader of the Democrats of the Left in the Regional Council of Veneto, where he was elected as the most voted regional deputy in the 2000 regional election. In 2004 Zanonato defeated incumbent Giustina Mistrello Destro and was elected for the third time Mayor of Padua with an absolute majority of 51.9% at the first round. This page gathers the results of elections in Veneto. Veneto has always been characterised by the big role played by the Catholic Church and centrist politics, but was also an early stronghold of the Radical Party and the Italian Socialist Party. In 1919, in the first election with male universal suffrage, the Catholic-inspired Italian People's Party won 42.6% of the vote and the Italian Socialist Party 36.2%. After World War II, Veneto was a stronghold of Christian Democracy, which was by far the largest party, successively won all the elections from 1946 to 1992 and continuously held the helm of the Regional Government from its establishment in 1970 to 1993. In 1994 the party was disbanded and its main successor, the new Italian People's Party, was much weaker. The Associative Movement of Italians Abroad ( it, Movimento Associativo Italiani all'Estero, MAIE) is an Italian political party representing Italians abroad. Based in Argentina and active mainly in South America, the MAIE is a centrist party. History The party emerged from the split of the liberal wing of the Italian Associations in South America (AISA) in 2008. I Change (''Io Cambio'', IC) is a political party in Italy. History The party was formed in 2013 by Angelo Alessandri, former federal president of LN, national secretary of Lega Nord Emilia and member of the Chamber of Deputies, who had not supported the party's new course under Roberto Maroni. He was joined by other dissatisfied Lega members, like Claudio Morganti, MEP and former national secretary of Lega Nord Toscana, and Rosario Polizzi, a former deputy for National Alliance who had later joined I the South. Italy of Values ( it, Italia dei Valori, IdV) is a populist and anti-corruption political party in Italy. The party was founded in 1998 by former ''Mani pulite'' prosecutor Antonio Di Pietro, who entered politics in 1996 and finally left the party in 2014. South Tyrolean People's Party
The South Tyrolean People's Party (german: Südtiroler Volkspartei, SVP) is a regionalist and autonomist political party in South Tyrol, an autonomous province with a German-speaking majority in northern Italy. Founded on 8 May 1945, the SVP has roots in the Deutscher Verband, a confederation of German-speaking parties formed in 1919 after the annexation of South Tyrol by Italy, which shared many of the same leading figures as the SVP. An ethnic catch-all party, the SVP is aimed at representing South Tyrol's German-speaking population as well as Ladin speakers, and is mainly Christian-democratic but nevertheless quite diverse, including conservatives, liberals and social democrats. European Greens – Green Italy ( it, Verdi Europei – Green Italia) has been a political alliance in Italy between the Federation of the Greens and Green Italia, constituted for the 2014 European election. The list was initially excluded to not have picked up the 30,000 signatures necessary for the candidacy in every of the five Italian districts. The list has subsequently been readmitted to the electoral competition following provision of the Court of Cassation that has recognized the exemption from the obligation of harvest of the signatures because the list is already expression of the present European Green Party in the European Parliament. The Other Europe ( it, L'Altra Europa), whose full name was The Other Europe with Tsipras (''L'Altra Europa con Tsipras'', AET), was a left-wing political organisation in Italy. Mara Bizzotto (Bassano del Grappa, 3 June 1972) is an Italian politician and was a European Parliament member. She was a member of the Regional Council of Veneto from 2000 to 2005 and then, again, from 2006 to 2009, when she was elected to the European Parliament. She was re-elected in 2014 and 2019.
