2014 Democratic Party (HK) Leadership Election
The Democratic Party leadership election was held on 14 December 2012 for the 30-member 11th Central Committee of the Democratic Party in Hong Kong, including chairperson and two vice-chairperson posts. Incumbent Chairperson Emily Lau secured her post against three other candidates after two rounds of election. Electoral method The Central Committee was elected by the party congress. All public office holders, including the members of the Legislative Council and District Councils, are eligible to vote in the party congress. The electoral method changed in this election, the eligibility of members electing a delegate who holds one vote in the congress from 30 members each delegate to only 5 members. Candidate also needs a majority in order to claim victory. Overview The election was held right after the Umbrella Movement was cleared out. Southern District Council
Southern District Council is the district council for the Southern District in Hong Kong. It is one of 18 such councils. The Southern District Council currently consists of 17 members, of which the district is divided into 17 constituencies, electing a total of 17 members. The last election was held on 24 November 2019. History The Southern District Council was established on 4 December 1981 under the name of the Southern District Board as the result of the colonial Governor Murray MacLehose's District Administration Scheme reform. The District Board was partly elected with the ''ex-officio'' Urban Council members, as well as members appointed by the Governor until 1994 when last Governor Chris Patten refrained from appointing any member. Ho Chun-yan
Albert Ho Chun-yan (; born 1 December 1951) is a solicitor and politician in Hong Kong. He is the former chairman (2014–2019) and vice-chair (2019–2021) of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, and former chairman of the Democratic Party from 2006 to 2012. He is a solicitor and a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for District Council (Second) constituency. Early life and education Ho was born in what was then British Hong Kong on 1 December 1951 in a big family with six children. His father worked in a shipping company by day and as a translator by night, along with two other jobs that he had. Cheung Yin-tung
Cheung Yin-tung (; born 1 May 1964) is a Hong Kong politician. He is the former secretary and treasurer of the Democratic Party and former member of the Yuen Long District Council. Biography He was a New Territories indigenous resident born in Yuen Long in 1964. He participated in student activism when he was younger and was chairman of the 32nd standing committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) and led protests in support of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 in Beijing. After he graduated, he became a teacher. He was invited by Meeting Point and United Democrats of Hong Kong legislator Ng Ming-yum to join the United Democrats, which later transformed into the Democratic Party. Cheung Man-kwong (, born 15 September 1954) is a Hong Kong politician, who is a member of the Yuen Long District Council. Josephine Chan Shu-ying
Josephine Chan Shu-ying (; born 18 November 1958) is a Hong Kong politician and former chairman of the Tuen Mun District Council. As a Democratic Party member, Chan has been member of the Tuen Mun District Council from 1994 to 2015 and again from 2020 to 2021 for Siu Hong constituency and former member of the Regional Council. Biography Chan was graduated from University of Hong Kong in 1982 and became a secondary school teacher at Buddhist Sum Heung Lam Memorial College, where she met her husband Lee Wing-tat. Ricky Or Yiu-lam
Ricky Or Yiu-lam (; born 12 May 1971) is a Hong Kong politician and a former member of the Sai Kung District Council for Kwong Ming. He is the former chairman of the Concern Group for Tseung Kwan O People's Livelihood and a former member of the Democratic Party. Biography He first won a seat in Sai Kung District Council in Kwong Ming in the 2003 District Council elections. After joining Emily Lau's The Frontier, he ran in the 2004 Legislative Council election on the star-stubbed "7.1 United Front" ticket in New Territories East with stars like Lau, Andrew Cheng and Ronny Tong. Being on the last place of the ticket, received more than 168,000 votes. Hui Chi-fung
Ted Hui Chi-fung ( zh, t=許智峯; born 8 June 1982) is a Hong Kong politician. He formerly represented the Chung Wan constituency in the Central and Western District Council, and formerly he was the Legislative Councillor for the Hong Kong Island constituency. Li Wing-shing
Wilson Li Wing-shing (; born 1975) is a Hong Kong politician. He is formerly the secretary and currently the vice-chairman of the Democratic Party. He is also member of the Sha Tin District Council for Wu Kai Sha. Li was born in 1975. He started working at Legislative Councillor Emily Lau's office in 2005. He joined the Democratic Party when The Frontier was merged into the Democratic Party in 2008. He became a member of the party central committee and served as party secretary-general of the party from 2014. Ramon Yuen Hoi-man (; born 1986) is a Hong Kong politician. He is the Treasurer of the Democratic Party and member of the Sham Shui Po District Council for Lai Chi Kok Central. Andrew Wan Siu-kin (; born 7 June 1969) is the former vice-chairman of the Democratic Party and a former member of the Kwai Tsing District Council for Shek Yam constituency.
