The 2014 Ice Challenge was a senior international figure skating competition held in November 2014 at the Liebenauer Eishalle in Graz, Austria. It was part of the 2014–15 ISU Challenger Series. ISU Challenger Series
The ISU Challenger Series is a series of international figure skating competitions. Established by the International Skating Union in the 2014–15 season, it is a group of senior-level events ranked below the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Each event consists of at least three disciplines out of four ( men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing), and is required to take place between August 1 and December 15. The ISU Challenger Series Synchronized Skating is a separate competition series in the discipline of synchronized skating. History The ISU Council decided to create the series at its February 2014 meeting. Eleven competitions were selected in June 2014. The Triglav Trophy dropped out by October 10, 2014, resulting in a series composed of ten events. Ice Dancing
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. Ice dance, like pair skating, has its roots in the "combined skating" developed in the 19th century by skating clubs and organizations and in recreational social skating. Couples and friends would skate waltzes, marches, and other social dances. The first steps in ice dance were similar to those used in ballroom dancing. In the late 1800s, American Jackson Haines, known as "the Father of Figure Skating", brought his style of skating, which included waltz steps and social dances, to Europe. Marco Klepoch
Marco Klepoch (born 3 November 1997) is a Slovak figure skater. He is the 2018 Crystal Skate of Romania champion, the 2014 New Year's Cup silver medalist, and a four-time Slovak national champion (2013–2015, 2019). He has appeared at five ISU Championships. Career On the ice from the age of five, Klepoch began skating because his father wanted him to learn a variety of sports. His first instructor was Eva Takáčová and then Vladimir Dvojnikov. He is a member of ŠKP Bratislava's skating club and trains at the Vladimír Dzurilla ice rink in Bratislava. Andrew Dodds
Andrew Dodds (born 2 August 1991) is an Australian figure skater who competes in both men's singles and ice dance. As a single skater, he is a three-time Australian national silver medalist and has competed in the final segment at four Four Continents Championships. As an ice dancer with partner Chantelle Kerry, he is a two-time Australian national champion (2017, 2018) and has appeared at two Four Continents. Personal life Andrew Dodds was born on 2 August 1991, in Gold Coast, Queensland. He studied commerce at Griffiths University. He has also studied Japanese. Ali Demirboga
ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib ( ar, عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; 600 – 661 CE) was the last of four Rightly Guided Caliphs to rule Islam (r. 656 – 661) immediately after the death of Muhammad, and he was the first Shia Imam. Mario-Rafael Ionian (born 14 October 1990) is an Austrian former competitive figure skater who competed in men's singles. He is a three-time Austrian national champion and the 2012 Golden Bear of Zagreb champion. He competed at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, and at the 2010 World Junior Championships in The Hague, Netherlands, but was eliminated after the short program at both events. Justus Strid
Justus Strid (born 29 April 1987) is a retired Danish figure skater. He is the 2012 Golden Spin of Zagreb bronze medalist, a three-time Nordic silver medalist, and a seven-time Danish national champion. Career Strid originally competed for Sweden. In 2004, he moved to Hørsholm, Denmark to be coached by Henrik Walentin and Julia Sandstrom. He himself began working as a coach at about the same time, teaching skating to children. He later changed coaches, deciding to work with his brother, Kalle Strid, and Martin Johansson. He lives in the center of Copenhagen and trains in Skatingclub Copenhagen (SKK). Strid began skating for Denmark in the 2007–08 season. This was after the Danish skating federation asked him to represent them. He won his first national title that season. Phillip Harris (born 29 September 1989) is a British former figure skater. He is a three-time British national champion (2014–2015, 2015–2016, 2017–2018) and has qualified for the free skate at four ISU Championships. Career Early career Harris began skating in Blackpool at the age of eleven, in 2000. After winning the British junior title in January 2008, he relocated to Coventry and began to be coached by Yuri Bureiko. Harris never competed on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series. He made his senior international debut at the 2009 NRW Trophy, placing 19th. In the 2010–2011 season, he stepped onto the British national podium for the first time, taking the bronze medal.
