2014 Appalachian State Mountaineers Football Team
The 2014 Appalachian State Mountaineers football team represented Appalachian State University in the 2014 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by second-year head coach Scott Satterfield and played their home games at Kidd Brewer Stadium. This season was the Mountaineers first season in the Sun Belt Conference. In their second year of their two-year FCS-to-FBS transition, the Mountaineers were eligible for the conference championship; however, they were not bowl-eligible. After starting the season 1–5, the Mountaineers ended their first FBS season with a 6-game winning streak, finishing 7–5 overall and 6–2 in Sun Belt play with upset wins over last year's Sun Belt co-champions Arkansas State and Louisiana–Lafayette, good for third place in the Sun Belt. Scott Satterfield
Fredric Scott Satterfield (born December 21, 1972) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head football coach at the University of Cincinnati. Satterfield previously served as the head football coach at the University of Louisville from 2019–22 and Appalachian State University from 2013–18. Playing career Satterfield played quarterback for Orange High School, located in Hillsborough, North Carolina, from 1989 to 1991. He attended Appalachian State from 1991 to 1996 and started 27 games at quarterback from 1992–95 under Coach Jerry Moore. As a senior in 1995, Satterfield led the Mountaineers to an undefeated regular season and the quarter final of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs, where they lost to Stephen F. Austin State University. The 2014 Liberty Flames football team represented Liberty University in the 2014 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by third-year head coach Turner Gill and played their home games at Williams Stadium. They were a member of the Big South Conference. Allen E. Paulson Stadium is a 25,000-seat on-campus football stadium in Statesboro, Georgia. It is home to the Georgia Southern Eagles football team and the focal point of Erk Russell Athletic Park. Paulson Stadium was dedicated on September 29, 1984 with a 48–11 win over Liberty University. The game was a fitting end to four years of planning one of the finest I-AA facilities in America. The Appalachian State–Georgia Southern football rivalry, also known as Deeper Than Hate, is a college rivalry between the Mountaineers of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and the Eagles of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. Despite being located in separate states, the two universities have similar academic profiles, both having developed from teachers' colleges, and having enrollments of approximately 20,000. The 2014 Georgia Southern Eagles football team represented Georgia Southern University in the 2014 NCAA Division I FBS football season.
