The Milwaukee Mile
The Milwaukee Mile is a oval race track in the central United States, located on the grounds of the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wisconsin, a suburb west of Milwaukee. Its grandstand and bleachers seats approximately 37,000 spectators. Paved in 1954, it was originally a dirt track. In addition to the oval, there is a road circuit located on the infield. As the oldest operating motor speedway in the world, the Milwaukee Mile has hosted at least one auto race every year from 1903 to 2015 (except during U.S. involvement in World War II). The track has held events sanctioned by major bodies, such as the American Automobile Association, AAA, United States Automobile Club, USAC, NASCAR, Champ Car, CART/Champ Car World Series, and the IndyCar Series. 2014 IndyCar Series
The 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series was the 19th season of the IndyCar Series and the 103rd season of American open wheel racing. Its premier event was the 98th Indianapolis 500, held on Sunday, May 25. Scott Dixon entered the season as the defending IndyCar Champion, while Chevrolet entered as the reigning Manufacturers' champion. The 2014 season featured eleven different winners, tying a record previously set in 2000 and 2001. Heading into the final race of the season, Will Power led Hélio Castroneves by 51 points. Will Power
William "Will" Steven Power (born 1 March 1981) is an Australian motorsports driver who currently competes in the IndyCar Series, driving for Team Penske. He is the 2014 and 2022 IndyCar Series champion and the 2018 Indianapolis 500 champion. Power is currently fifth all-time in wins with 41 and first all-time in poles earned in IndyCar history with 68. Australian racing Will Power was born in Toowoomba, Queensland. The son of open-wheel racer Bob Power, Will Power started his career in Queensland driving a Datsun 1200 at Morgan Park Raceway, Warwick as well as at Carnel Raceway, Stanthorpe. The 2014 GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma was a Verizon IndyCar Series event that was held on August 24, 2014 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California. It was the seventeenth and penultimate race of the 2014 IndyCar Series season. The eighty-five lap race was won by Scott Dixon for Chip Ganassi Racing, Ryan Hunter-Reay finished second and Simon Pagenaud third. A 6.0 earthquake hit the area in the early morning of the race; it did not damage the track, and officials deemed its infrastructure safe from collapse, allowing the race to proceed as scheduled. The win was the 35th of Dixon's career, tying him with Bobby Unser for the fifth-most of all-time. The ABC Supply Wisconsin 250 at Milwaukee IndyFest Presented by the Metro Milwaukee Honda Dealers was an IndyCar Series race held at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin. History Open wheel racing at the track dates back to 1937. AAA sanctioned races in 1937–1939, 1941, and 1946–1955. The track was paved in 1954. USAC sanctioned Championship car races from 1956 to 1979. In 1980, the race switched to a CART/Champ Car race, and continued through 2006. IndyCar started holding races at the track in 2004, and thus for a brief time from 2004 to 2006, the track hosted both a Champ Car race (June) and an IndyCar race (August).
