2013–14 Maltese FA Trophy
The 2013–14 Maltese FA Trophy was the 76th season since its establishment. For the second season, the competition included all teams from Malta and Gozo. The competition began on 1 September 2013 and ended on 4 May 2014 with the final in Ta' Qali Stadium. The defending champions were Hibernians, having won their 10th Maltese Cup last season, but were eliminated by Pietà Hotspurs in the fourth round. Valletta were crowned winners after defeating Sliema Wanderers 1–0 in the final, therefore qualifying for the first qualifying round of the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League. Hibernians were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the Fourth Round by Pietà Hotspurs. Calendar Matches began on 1 September 2013 and concluded with the final on 4 May 2014. Qrendi ( mt, Il-Qrendi) is a village in the Southern Region of Malta, with a population of 2752 people as of March 2014. It is located close to Mqabba, Żurrieq and Siggiewi. Within its boundaries are two well-known Neolithic temples called Mnajdra and Ħaġar Qim. In this village two feasts are held annually. The feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is celebrated either on the last Sunday of June or on the first Sunday of July, with 15 August the titular feast of the Ascension of Our Lady. Swieqi ( mt, Is-Swieqi) is a town in the Northern Region of Malta. It is a residential area just 15 minutes by bus from Sliema and within walking distance of Malta's nightlife and entertainment centres, Paceville and St. Julian's. Kalkara ( mt, Il-Kalkara) is a village in the South Eastern Region of Malta, with a population of 3,014 as of March 2014. The name is derived from the Latin word for lime (Calce), and it is believed that there was a lime kiln present there since Roman times. Kalkara forms part of the inner harbour area and occupies the area around Kalkara Creek. Munxar ( mt, Il-Munxar) is an administrative unit of Malta, which lies on the southern side of island of Gozo. As of March 2014, its population was 1,454 people. Close by to this village, there is Xlendi Bay, a popular tourist resort engulfed in a fiord like inlet amongst high cliffs. Xlendi Bay is a small fishing village, but is also an ideal bathing and diving resort especially in summer. Otherwise, foreigners and locals enjoy the late spring and early autumn sunsets often captured by artists or keen photographers.
