2013–14 Liga Leumit
The 2013–14 Liga Leumit was the fifteenth season since its introduction in 1999 and the 72nd season of second-tier football in Israel. It began on 8 September 2013 and will end in May 2014. A total of sixteen teams are contesting in the league, including twelve sides from the 2012–13 season, two promoted team from the 2012–13 Liga Alef and two relegated teams from the 2012–13 Israeli Premier League. Changes from 2012–13 season Team changes Maccabi Petah Tikva, and Hapoel Ra'anana, were promoted to the 2013–14 Israeli Premier League. Maccabi Netanya, and Hapoel Ramat Gan were directly relegated to the 2013–14 Liga Leumit after finishing the 2012–13 Israeli Premier League season in the bottom two places. Sektzia Nes Tziona, and Hapoel Kfar Saba were directly relegated to Liga Alef after finishing in the previous season in last two league places. Liga Leumit
Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second division of the Israeli Football League, and below its Premier League. Structure There are 16 clubs in the league. At the end of each season, the two lowest-placed teams are relegated to Liga Alef while the two highest-placed teams from Liga Alef are promoted in their place. The two highest-placed Liga Leumit teams are promoted to the Israeli Premier League while the bottom two teams from Israeli Premier League are relegated in their place. The participating clubs were first play a conventional round-robin schedule for a total of 30 matches, with all points accumulated by the clubs are halved. Following this, the top eight teams will first play in a promotion playoff. To determine the promoted teams. and the eight clubs play a single round-robin schedule. History The construction of the stadium began in 1960 as a joint stadium of the city of Nazareth and Kiryat Nazareth (as it was then called Nof HaGalil) at the initiative of the General Histadrut of the Workers in the Land of Israel. The plan was for the stadium to be used by a joint Jewish-Arab soccer team that would be established for the two cities, under the auspices of the Hapoel Sports Association. The 2013–14 Israeli Premier League was the fifteenth season since its introduction in 1999 and the 71st season of top-tier football in Israel. It began on 24 August 2013 and ended on 17 May 2014. Maccabi Tel Aviv were the defending champions, having won their second Premier League title, and 19th championship last season. They successfully defended their title this season.
