2013–14 Greenock Morton F.C. Season
Season 2013–14 saw Greenock Morton compete in their seventh consecutive season in the second tier of Scottish football (now called the Scottish Championship), having finished 2nd in the 2012–13 season. Morton also competed in the Challenge Cup, Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup. At the end of the season, they were relegated to Scottish League One for the 2014–15 season. Story of the season May Manager Allan Moore and his assistant Mark McNally agreed new one-year deals with the club, whilst experienced pros Martin Hardie and Colin McMenamin were released. Nine players were offered new one-year deals but David Hutton, Kyle Wilkie and Peter Weatherson were released. David O'Brien and Derek Gaston were the first to sign their new contracts. Greenock Morton F
Greenock (; sco, Greenock; gd, Grianaig, ) is a town and administrative centre in the Inverclyde council area in Scotland, United Kingdom and a former burgh within the historic county of Renfrewshire, located in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It forms part of a contiguous urban area with Gourock to the west and Port Glasgow to the east. The 2011 UK Census showed that Greenock had a population of 44,248, a decrease from the 46,861 recorded in the 2001 UK Census. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. Stranraer ( , in Scotland also ; gd, An t-Sròn Reamhar ), also known as The Toon, is a town in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is located in the historical parish of Inch in the historic county of Wigtownshire. It lies on the shores of Loch Ryan, on the northern side of the isthmus joining the Rhins of Galloway to the mainland. Archie Campbell (footballer, Born 1991)
Archie Campbell (born 10 January 1991) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Crossgates Primrose. Campbell started his career at Rangers, but left to join Morton after seven years at Ibrox. He also had a loan spell at Cowdenbeath where he scored five league goals as they failed to avoid relegation. Club career Campbell started his career with Cowdenbeath in 2007, having been with the club since the age of 13. Cowdenbeath loan Campbell joined First Division club Cowdenbeath in the 2011 January transfer window on loan until the end of the season. Derek Gaston
Derek Gaston (born 18 April 1987) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Arbroath in the Scottish Championship. Gaston previously played for Albion Rovers before joining Morton in 2012. Career Gaston began his senior career with Albion Rovers in 2009, signing from local youth side Baillieston under-21s. He won the Scottish Football League player of the month award for September 2009. He joined Greenock Morton in 2012, making his debut against his former club in the Challenge Cup in July 2012. After playing all but three matches for Morton in his first season, Gaston signed a new one-year contract in May 2013. In May 2014, he agreed to sign for a further season, followed by signing another one-year deal in May 2015 after winning Scottish League One. David O'Brien (footballer)
David O'Brien (born 24 January 1984 in Stirling) is a Scottish former professional footballer who used to play as a left-sided midfielder, for home-town side Stirling University now acts as a coach. He has also played for Stirling Albion, Dundee and Ayr United. Career O'Brien started his career with Stirling Albion in 2001, after joining from amateur side Denny Amateurs, and helped them win the Second Division play-off final against Airdrie United in 2007. In January 2007, he signed a pre-contract agreement with Dundee, moving to Tayside in May 2007. At the end of the 2007–08 season, he signed a one-year contract extension with the Dens Park side. Peter Weatherson
Peter Joseph Weatherson (born 29 May 1980) is an English former professional footballer who mainly played as a striker for Greenock Morton. Weatherson also played for Newcastle Blue Star, Queen of the South and Annan Athletic. Weatherson was also joint player-manager of Shettleston in the Scottish Juniors, West Region. Weatherson started his senior career with Dumfries club Queen of the South from 2000 until 2003, after initially playing with local club Newcastle Blue Star. Weatherson then went on to play for Greenock Morton for a decade from 2003 until 2013 and then Annan Athletic from 2013 until 2016, before going to Shettleston in the Scottish Juniors, West Region as joint player-manager. Weatherson returned to Annan Athletic for a second spell on 13 January 2017, leaving Shettleston after only five months in charge and retired from playing football at the end of the 2016–17 season, as he approached 37 years old on 29 May 2017. Kyle Wilkie
Kyle Wilkie (born 20 February 1991) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Gala Fairydean Rovers. He has previously played youth football in England with Stockport County, before playing senior professional football in Scotland for Hamilton Academical, Greenock Morton, Livingston, Berwick Rangers, East Fife, Airdrieonians and Annan Athletic. Career Wilkie graduated from the Stockport County Centre of Excellence, before signing for Hamilton Academical on 19 August 2009. He made his professional debut for Hamilton on 22 August 2009, in a 3–0 loss against Aberdeen. Wilkie left Hamilton at the end of the 2011–12 season. David William Hutton (born 18 May 1985) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Airdrieonians. Hutton has previously played for Aberdeen, Petershill, Clyde, Queen of the South, Hamilton Academical, Greenock Morton, Ayr United, Dunfermline Athletic, Arbroath, Brechin City and Alloa Athletic. Colin McMenamin (born 12 February 1981) is a Scottish former professional football player, and is the current assistant manager of Annan Athletic. McMenamin, who played as a striker, began his career with Annan Athletic before moving to Newcastle United. His first senior start came for Livingston where he spent three seasons. Martin Hardie (footballer)
Martin Hardie (born 22 April 1976) is a Scottish football coach, former footballer, and current manager of Lowland League side BSC Glasgow. Hardie started his career with Queen's Park in 1996, subsequently playing for eight different clubs, including two spells at Partick Thistle and also playing for both guises of Airdrieonians. Career Upon joining St Johnstone, Hardie was suspended for the opening game of the 2006–07 season. He marked his debut for the club just three days later with a goal in a 3–1 win over East Fife in the League Cup. On 27 January 2007, Hardie scored late winner for second-placed St Johnstone against top-of-the-table Gretna at McDiarmid Park.
