2013–14 Costa Rican Primera División Season
The 2013–14 Primera División season (known as the ''Campeonato JPS 2013–14'' for sponsorship reasons) is the 95th of Costa Rica's top-flight professional football league. The season was divided into two championships: the Invierno and the Verano. Universidad de Costa Rica is the newly promoted member. The Invierno season was dedicated to Guillermo Vargas Roldán. Costa Rican Primera División
The Primera División of Costa Rica, commonly known as Fútbol de Primera División (FPD), and Liga Promerica for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional association football division in Costa Rica. It is administered by the Unión de Clubes de Fútbol de la Primera División (UNAFUT). The league consists of 12 teams, with the last-placed team relegated to the Liga de Ascenso. The league was founded in 1921, with Herediano crowned as the first champions. Saprissa is the most successful club having won the championship a record 37 times. Together with Alajuelense (30 titles) and Herediano (29 titles), they have dominated the league. Competition format The Liga FPD features a format in which two separate tournaments are held over the course of one particular season. The ''Torneo de Apertura'' (Spanish for "Opening Tournament") lasts from July to December, while the ''Torneo de Clausura'' (Spanish for "Closing Tournament") lasts from January to May. Club Sport Uruguay De Coronado
Club Sport Uruguay de Coronado, also known as Uruguay de Coronado is a Costa Rican football club, that currently plays in the Costa Rican Segunda División. History Founded 3 January 1936, they were named after the first FIFA World Cup champions, Uruguay. They changed their first club colors, red and black like Alajuelense, to the yellow and black of Uruguayan giants Peñarol and made their Primera División debut in 1950. In 1961, they became runner-up to champions El Carmen, when the big clubs left the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol and founded their own ASOFUTBOL league and the title was contested between three clubs only: Carmen, Uruguay de Coronado and Gimnástica Española. However, the ASOFUTBOL teams returned to the league and only Uruguay retained their place in the top tier. Heredia () is a district in the Heredia canton of Heredia province, Costa Rica. As the seat of the municipality of Heredia canton, it is awarded the status of city, and by virtue of being the city of the first canton, it is the Province Capital of Heredia province as well. José Miguel Cubero
José Miguel Cubero Loría (born 14 February 1987) is a Costa Rican footballer who plays for Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and for the Costa Rica national football team as a holding midfielder. Club career Cubero was born in Sarchí. He made his professional debut for Herediano on 26 March 2006 against Santacruceña and had a spell on loan at Puntarenas in 2009. He signed a three-year contract extension with Herediano in April 2013. Cartago, Costa Rica
Cartago () is the head city of Cartago canton of the Cartago Province, and is composed of the Oriental and Occidental districts as stated in the administrative divisions of Costa Rica. It was the capital of Costa Rica from 1574 to 1824. History Founded in 1563 by Juan Vasquez de Coronado, it was the first successful establishment in Costa Rica. Víctor Amaury Núñez Rodríguez (born 15 April 1980) is a retired professional footballer who played as a forward for multiple clubs, including C.S. Herediano, L.D. Alajuelense, and Deportivo Saprissa. Yosimar Arias Céspedes (born 24 September 1986) is a Costa Rican professional footballer who plays for Municipal Grecia.
