2013–14 CHL Season
The 2013–14 CHL season was the 22nd season of the Central Hockey League (CHL). It was the last season of the CHL, as the league ceased operations in October 2014 after only seven teams remained. Allen, Brampton, Missouri, Quad City, Rapid City, Tulsa, and Wichita were accepted as expansion teams into the ECHL. Central Hockey League
The Central Hockey League (CHL) was a North American mid-level minor professional ice hockey league which operated from 1992 until 2014. It was founded by Ray Miron and Bill Levins and later sold to Global Entertainment Corporation, which operated the league from 2000 to 2013, at which point it was purchased by the individual franchise owners. As of the end of its final season in 2014, three of the 30 National Hockey League teams had affiliations with the CHL: the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Several teams of defunct leagues joined the CHL along its history, including the Southern Hockey League, Western Professional Hockey League and International Hockey League. North American Hockey League
The North American Hockey League (NAHL) is one of the top junior hockey leagues in the United States and is in its 48th season of operation in 2022–23. It is the only Tier II junior league sanctioned by USA Hockey, and acts as an alternative to the Tier I United States Hockey League (USHL). The NAHL is one of the oldest junior hockey leagues in the United States and is headquartered in Addison, Texas. The teams span the United States from Maine in the East to Alaska in the Northwest and to Texas in the South. The teams play a 60-game regular season, starting in mid-September and ending in early April. The top teams of the NAHL playoffs meet in a predetermined location to play in the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament. Shane Owen
Shane Owen (born June 4, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who currently plays for Fife Flyers in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). Playing career Owen played major junior hockey in both the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). During the 2009–10 QMJHL season he help the Moncton Wildcats capture the QMJHL Championship and a berth in the 2010 Memorial Cup. Owen began his professional career on January 29, 2011, when he signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Goaltender
In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender mostly plays in or near the area in front of the net called the ''Ice hockey rink#Crease, goal crease'' (often referred to simply as '' the crease''). Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots. In the modern age of goaltending there are two common styles, butterfly and hybrid (hybrid is a mix of the traditional stand-up style and butterfly technique). Because of the power of shots, the goaltender wears special equipment to protect the body from direct impact. Derek Armstrong (ice Hockey)
Derek Armstrong (born April 23, 1973) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. Armstrong played in the National Hockey League, where he played for the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and the St. Louis Blues. Playing career Derek Armstrong spent the majority of his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings. After being taken by the New York Islanders in the 6th round, 128th overall of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, Armstrong finally played his first full NHL campaign in the 2002–03 season, after having spent eight years in the minor leagues. Andrew Engelage
Andrew Engelage (born October 26, 1988) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He is currently an unrestricted free agent who most recently played for the Graz 99ers in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). Prior to turning professional, Engelage played for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He helped the Spitfires capture the Memorial Cup, and set the OHL's single season record for wins by a goaltender, with 46. Alexandre Lavoie
Alexandre Lavoie (born November 17, 1992) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with Mora IK of the HockeyAllsvenskan (Allsv). Playing career Lavoie started playing in Chicoutimi Saguenéens in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 2008 to 2011 followed by a season in the same league's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and one more season in the league's Rimouski Oceanic. He then moved to play on the Allen Americans in the Central Hockey League (CHL) for two seasons including a loan assignment to American Hockey League club, the Oklahoma City Barons. Tyler Ludwig (born May 24, 1985) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman. He last played with the Allen Americans of the ECHL having won three consecutive titles with the club in the Central Hockey League and the ECHL. Ray Miron President's Cup
The Ray Miron President's Cup is a trophy that was awarded to the playoff champion of the Central Hockey League (CHL) from 2002 until 2014, when the remaining CHL teams joined the ECHL. The trophy was known as The William "Bill" Levins Memorial Cup from 1992 until 2000, when the honour was renamed the Ray Miron Cup. (Bill Levins and Ray Miron being the co-founders of the CHL). From 1997-2001, the WPHL's playoff champion was awarded the "President's Cup", so when the CHL and the Western Professional Hockey League merged following their 2000-01 seasons, the CHL combined the traditions of the two leagues by renaming the trophy the "Ray Miron President's Cup". The "Playoff Most Valuable Player" award was also given out as part of the Ray Miron President's Cup Championship ceremonies. Wichita Thunder
The Wichita Thunder are a minor league hockey team based in Wichita, Kansas. The team played in the Central Hockey League from 1992 until 2014, and then in the ECHL since the 2014–15 season. From 1992 until December 2009, the Thunder played in the Britt Brown Arena located in the northern Wichita suburb of Park City. In January 2010 (the second half of the 2009–10 season), the team began playing its home games at the newly built Intrust Bank Arena. Arizona Sundogs
The Arizona Sundogs were a minor league professional ice hockey team based in Prescott Valley, Arizona. They played in the Central Hockey League from 2006 to 2014 with their home games at Tim's Toyota Center. History The team name, Sundogs, refers to an atmospheric phenomenon primarily associated with the reflection of sunlight by small ice crystals in cirrus clouds, resulting in what appears to be two suns in the sky. The Sundogs' primary 'S' logo makes reference to this occurrence with large and small starbursts.
