2013–14 Big Bash League Season
The 2013–14 Big Bash League season or BBL, 03 was the third season of the Big Bash League, the premier Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia. The tournament began on 20 December 2013 and ended on 7 February 2014. The format remained the same as the previous season but ran for a time-frame that is two weeks longer. The schedule also overlapped with the 2013–14 Ashes series. It was the first season to be broadcast on free-to-air television on Network Ten. The tournament was won by Perth Scorchers and the final was hosted at the WACA Ground in Perth, Australia. The Scorchers beat the Hobart Hurricanes in the final by 39 runs. Ben Dunk from the Hurricanes was named the 'Man of the Tournament' while Jonathan Wells from the same team was named the 'Young Gun of the Tournament'. Cricket Australia (CA), formerly known as the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), is the governing body for professional and amateur cricket in Australia. Melbourne Renegades
The Melbourne Renegades are an Australian professional men's Twenty20 franchise cricket club based in Melbourne, the capital city of the Australian state of Victoria. They compete in the Australian Twenty20 cricket competition, the Big Bash League. The team is coached by David Saker and captained by Nic Maddinson. History Inaugural seasons (2011–2013) The Renegades' foundation captain was Victorian all-rounder Andrew McDonald and coached by then Victorian Bushrangers one-day coach, Simon Helmot. In their first season, the Renegades signed local state players such as Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Hodge and Dirk Nannes, along with Pakistani imports Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq. Carl Sandri
Carl Stephen Sandri (born 11 July 1983) is an Italian-Australian cricket coach and former player. He represented Italy from 2012 to 2017 and also played a single season with the Sydney Thunder. He is an all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls off-spin. He coached Papua New Guinea from 2021 to 2022. Playing career Sandri played for the Victoria Second XI in the 2005/06 Australian season. Sandri later moved to England, where he played a single match in county cricket for the Worcestershire Second XI against the Yorkshire Second XI in 2008, but unable to force his way into the Worcestershire first eleven. Nic Maddinson
Nicolas James Maddinson (born 21 December 1991) is an Australian cricketer. He is a left-handed opening batter who has represented Australia in both Test matches and Twenty20 Internationals. Domestically he plays for the Victoria cricket team and the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League, previously having played for New South Wales, Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers. Moisés Henriques
Moisés Constantino Henriques (; born 1 February 1987) is a Portugal-born Australian professional cricketer who plays for Australia, New South Wales and the Sydney Sixers. An all-rounder, he is the first cricketer born in Portugal to play for Australia in an international match. Under-19s career At 16 years of age, Henriques was selected for the Australian U-19 cricket team's squad for the 2004 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh, where he took 11 wickets at 19.27 and scored 95 runs at 19.00. Usman Khawaja
Usman Tariq Khawaja ( ur, ; born 18 December 1986) is an Australian cricketer who represents Australia and Queensland. Khawaja made his first-class cricket debut for New South Wales in 2008 and played his first international match for Australia in January 2011. Khawaja was born in Pakistan and emigrated to Australia with his family at the age of five. Sydney Sixers
The Sydney Sixers are an Australian professional franchise men's cricket team, competing in Australia's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, the Big Bash League (BBL). Along with the Sydney Thunder, the Sixers are the successors of the New South Wales Blues who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The Sixers play at Sydney Cricket Ground in the south-eastern area of the inner city while the Thunder play out of Sydney Showground Stadium further west. The inaugural coach was Trevor Bayliss, who was replaced in 2015 by current coach Greg Shipperd. The Sixers' inaugural captain was Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin. The Sydney Thunder are an Australian franchise professional cricket team, competing in Australia's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, the Big Bash League. Along with the Sydney Sixers, the Thunder are the successors of the New South Wales Blues who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The team's home ground is Sydney Showground Stadium. John Ward (umpire)
John David Ward (born 27 April 1962) is an Australian cricket umpire. In April 2020, Ward announced his retirement from elite umpiring. Umpiring career He made his international debut on 28 January 2013, in a Twenty20 match between Australia and Sri Lanka. He stood in his first ODI game in 2014. Simon Fry
Simon Douglas Fry (born 29 July 1966) is an Australian cricket umpire. In April 2020, Fry announced his retirement from elite umpiring. Umpiring career Fry served as an international umpire in ODIs for the first time in a match between Australia and England at Adelaide on 26 January 2011. He stood in his first T20I in a match between Australia and England at Adelaide on 12 January 2011. He was selected as one of the twenty umpires to stand in matches during the 2015 Cricket World Cup, where was an on-field umpire in three group stage matches. Jackson Bird
Jackson Munro Bird (born 11 December 1986) is an Australian international cricketer. He has played for Australia in the past and currently plays first-class cricket for Tasmania. Bird is a fast-medium bowler. He is originally from Sydney and was educated at Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview and St Pius X College, Chatswood. Bird left the Manly club to further his career with the Tasmanian Tigers in the 2011–2012 season. Early career In March 2012, Bird took a hat-trick against Western Australia at the Bellerive Oval.
