Italian Television
Television in Italy was introduced in 1939, when the first experimental broadcasts began. However, this lasted for a very short time: when fascist Italy entered World War II in 1940 all transmissions were interrupted, and were resumed in earnest only nine years after the end of the conflict, on January 3, 1954. There are two main national television organisations responsible for most viewing: state-owned RAI, accounting for 37% of the total viewing figures in May 2014, and Mediaset, a commercial network which holds about 33%. The third largest player, the Italian branch of Warner Bros. Discovery, had a viewing share of 5.8%. Apart from these three free to air companies, Comcast's satellite pay TV platform Sky Italia is increasing in viewing and shares. Roger Young (director)
Roger E. Young (born May 13, 1942 in Champaign, Illinois) is an American TV and film director. Career Young graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Illinois. He worked as a producer-director at Channel 6, the NBC affiliate in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then moved to Chicago and became a producer for Foote-Cone & Belding Advertising, where he produced national commercials. Later he moved to directing commercials for the production company of Lippert-Saviano, and then for Topel & Associates, before opening his own production company, Young & Company, producing and directing commercials. In 1977 he moved to Los Angeles and was hired as associate producer on a television film entitled ''Something for Joey''. This led to being offered associate producer of ''Lou Grant''. Kasia Smutniak
Katarzyna Anna "Kasia" Smutniak (; born 13 August 1979) is a Polish-Italian actress and model. Personal life Smutniak was born in Piła, Poland. Her father, Brigadier General Zenon Smutniak, is a military pilot and served in the Polish Air Force. At 16, she obtained a glider pilot's license. Her mother was a nurse. She had a daughter, Sophie, in 2004 with Italian actor Pietro Taricone who died in an accident in 2010. She had a son, Leone, in 2014 with Italian film producer Domenico Procacci. Giuseppe Fiorello
Giuseppe Fiorello, also known as Beppe Fiorello or Fiorellino (born 12 March 1969), is an Italian actor. Career Fiorello was born in Catania, Sicily, the youngest of four children. His elder brother is the noted television and radio personality Rosario Fiorello, better known to Italian audiences as Fiorello. Domenico Modugno (; 9 January 1928 – 6 August 1994) was an Italian singer, actor and, later in life, a member of the Italian Parliament. He is known for his 1958 international hit song "Nel blu, dipinto di blu (song), Nel blu dipinto di blu", for which he received Grammy Awards for Grammy Award for Record of the Year, Record of the Year and Grammy Award for Song of the Year, Song of the Year. "Nel blu, dipinto di blu" (; 'In the blue ky s I waspainted blue' or 'In the blue-painted blue ky), popularly known as "Volare" (; 'To fly'), is a song originally recorded by Italian singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno. Written by Modugno and Franco Migliacci, it was released as a single on 1 February 1958. The song spent five non-consecutive weeks atop the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in August and September 1958, and subsequently became ''Billboard'''s number-one single for the year. In 1959, at the 1st Annual Grammy Awards, Modugno's recording became the first ever Grammy winner for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Winning the eighth Sanremo Music Festival, the song was chosen as the Italian entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958, where it came in third place out of ten songs in total. Michele Placido (; born 19 May 1946) is an Italian actor, film director, and screenwriter. He began his career on stage, and first gained mainstream attention through a series of roles in films directed by the likes of Mario Monicelli and Marco Bellocchio, winning the Berlinale's Silver Bear for Best Actor for his performance in the 1979 film ''Ernesto''. Cristiana Capotondi (born 13 September 1980) is an Italian actress. Early life and career Capotondi was born in Rome to an Italian family of mixed Italian Catholic and Italian Jewish background (her maternal grandfather was Jewish). Barabbas (; ) was, according to the New Testament, a prisoner who was chosen over Jesus by the crowd in Jerusalem to be pardoned and released by Roman governor Pontius Pilate at the Passover feast. Biblical account According to all four canonical gospels there was a prevailing Passover custom in Jerusalem that allowed Pilate, the ' or governor of Judea, to commute (reduce) one prisoner's death sentence by popular acclaim. In one such instance, the "crowd" (''ochlos''), "the Jews" and "the multitude" in some sources, are offered the choice to have either Barabbas or Jesus released from Roman custody.
