Ireland
Ireland ( ; ga, Éire ; Ulster Scots dialect, Ulster-Scots: ) is an island in the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean, in Northwestern Europe, north-western Europe. It is separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel (Great Britain and Ireland), North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George's Channel. Kilkenny Arts Festival
The Kilkenny Arts Festival, formally known as Kilkenny Arts Week, was founded in Kilkenny, Ireland, in 1974. It covers a number of art forms, including classical music and performance. Playwright and poet Seamus Heaney gave a reading of some of his works during the inaugural event. As of 2016, the event included theatre, dance, visual arts, and other forms of music and literature. The festival commissions works for the event locally and from abroad. Format The ten-day festival takes place each August in Kilkenny and is intended to be a showcase for Irish and international arts. Around 50,000 people have attended previous festivals, with performances taking place on the streets as well as in indoor venues. Former venues across the city have ranged from rooms in pubs, to St Canice's Cathedral and Kilkenny Castle. The festival's annual schedule includes a parade through the centre of the city. Stendhal Festival
Stendhal Festival was originally formed in 2008 by Ross Parkhill & John Cartwright, to showcase local music across 3 days in Limavady, Northern Ireland. Bands such as And So I Watch You From Afar, Two Door Cinema Club, Delerentos, The Coronas, Jape and Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly. were due to perform, but the event was cancelled due to poor ticket sales. The festival reformed as Stendhal Festival of Art in 2011 by the founders Ross Parkhill, John Cartwright and Colm O'Donnell, as a platform for local artists to perform alongside acts such as Turin Brakes at Ballymully Cottage Farm in Limavady. The festival was named after The Stendhal Syndrome, Stendhal Syndrome. Attendance numbers of the festival have increased year on year, with the festival winning Best Small Festival in 2013–2015, Best Family Friendly Festival 2014 in Ireland and nominated for the UK Festival Awards in 2016. Electric Picnic
Electric Picnic is an annual arts-and-music festival which has been staged since 2004 at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland. It is organised by Pod Concerts and Festival Republic, who purchased the majority shareholding in 2009. It was voted Best Medium-Sized European Festival at the 2010 European Festival Awards, and has been voted Best Big Festival at each of the last four Irish Festival Awards since they began in 2007. The Picnic has been described as "Ireland's version of Glastonbury" and "a great inspiration to Latitude" by one of its business partners, Laois. US magazine ''Billboard'' calling it as "a magnificent rock n roll circus, a textbook example of everything a festival should be" and ''Rolling Stone'' describing it as "one of the best festivals we've ever been to". Oxfam is a British-founded confederation of 21 independent charitable organizations focusing on the alleviation of global poverty, founded in 1942 and led by Oxfam International. East Cork Early Music Festival
East Cork Early Music Festival is an Irish arts festival that is intended to "promote the performance and appreciation" of music written before 1750 on period instruments. Formed in 2003 under the artistic direction of Sarah Cunningham, the festival takes place in the East Cork area during the autumn (usually at the beginning of October). It features concerts, lectures, workshops and other events related to early music. East Cork Early Music Festival has included events in local landmark buildings such as St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Fota House, the Grainstore at Ballymaloe, the Collegiate Church in Youghal and Cloyne Cathedral. Other events have taken place in the Curtis Auditorium and Stack Theatre in the Cork School of Music. ''The Irish Times'' is an Irish daily broadsheet newspaper and online digital publication. It launched on 29 March 1859. The editor is Ruadhán Mac Cormaic. It is published every day except Sundays. ''The Irish Times'' is considered a newspaper of record for Ireland. Though formed as a Protestant nationalist paper, within two decades and under new owners it had become the voice of British unionism in Ireland. (RTÉ) (; Irish language, Irish for "Radio & Television of Ireland") is the Public broadcaster, national broadcaster of Republic of Ireland, Ireland headquartered in Dublin. It both produces and broadcasts programmes on RTÉ Television, television, RTÉ Radio, radio and RTÉ.ie, online.
