Television in Belgium was introduced in 1953 and began with one channel each in Dutch and French. The country is heavily cabled, with 93% of households watching television through cable as of 2003. History The three Belgian Communities – Dutch, French and German-speaking – have legal responsibility for audiovisual communication. They constitute separate markets, the common feature of which is the fact that they have been extensively cabled for three decades and are thus able to receive neighbouring countries' channels. Until 1978, Radio-Television Belgium ( nl, Belgische Radio- en Televisieomroep; french: Radio-Télévision Belge) was Belgium's national public television broadcaster. When broadcasting was devolved to the language communities in 1977, the old organization split into three separate organisations now known as VRT, RTBF and BRF respectively. Kevin Van Der Perren
Kevin van der Perren (born 6 August 1982) is a Belgian former competitive figure skater. He is the 2007 & 2009 European bronze medalist, a three-time Grand Prix medalist, and an eight-time (2000–2004, 2007, 2011, 2012) Belgian national champion. Van der Perren was the flagbearer for Belgium at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics. Personal life Kevin van der Perren was born on 6 August 1982 in Ninove, Belgium. He married British skater Jenna McCorkell on 17 May 2008. The couple lives in Coleraine, Northern Ireland and have a son named Ben, born in 2019. Career Van der Perren became interested in figure skating after a traveling ice show came to his town to perform. The Voice Van Vlaanderen
''The Voice van Vlaanderen'' (; English-Dutch for ''The Voice of Flanders'') is a Belgian reality singing competition for the Flemish part of Belgium. It is part of the franchise that started in the Netherlands as ''The Voice of Holland''. It kicked off on November 25, 2011 on VTM, shortly before the francophone Belgian variant ''The Voice Belgique'' went on air. As of 2022, the show has aired for eight seasons. One of the important premises of the show is the quality of the singing talent. Four coaches, themselves popular performing artists, train the talents in their group and occasionally perform with them. Talents are selected in blind auditions, where the coaches cannot see, but only hear the auditioner. ''Samson & Gert'' is a Flemish children's television series produced by Eline van Noppen, centered on the talking dog Samson and his owner Gert. In its entire run, the show was originally aired on TV1 from Christmas Day 1989 until 1 December 1997, where it moved to Ketnet and continues airing all of its episodes to this day. History Originally Gert Verhulst was a continuity announcer. He wanted to make the announcements before children's television programmes more appealing by having an animal puppet next to him. He got in touch with puppeteer Danny Verbiest, who created the puppet dog Samson. Samson, a Bearded Collie, made his screen debut in the Christmas period of 1989. Mega Mindy
''Mega Mindy'' is a Flemish children's television series with a supernatural/superhero drama theme. The series was created by Studio 100 and airs on the Flemish TV channel Ketnet. It centers around a young woman, Mieke, (Free Souffriau), who lives with her grandparents and works as a police officer but also has a secret identity as superhero Mega Mindy. She tries to keep it a secret, but falls in love with Toby (Louis Talpe) who also works at the police. He is in love with Mega Mindy and does not know that Mieke secretly likes him and is actually Mega Mindy. She tries to find a way to balance between work and being a superhero, but it is not always easy.
