2013 World Championships In Athletics – Men's 1500 Metres
The men's 1500 metres at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Luzhniki Stadium on 14–18 August. For those competitors lucky enough to get into semifinal 1, they were treated to a rather pedestrian tactical race controlled by defending champion, Olympic champion and world leader Asbel Kiprop. If you can't kick with him, you go home. Semifinal 2 was a different story with a much faster pace all the time qualifiers came from this race, with several also rans left out with times faster than Kiprop. With three Kenyans qualified, rumors were out that there would be a fast pace for the final. That wasn't the case, first Kiprop looked around for his teammates and they weren't there. On the second lap Nixon Chepseba took off into the lead, but all eyes were on Kiprop and nobody followed. Bernard Kipchirchir Lagat (born December 12, 1974) is a Kenyan-American middle and long-distance runner. Lagat was born in Kapsabet, Kenya. Prior to his change of domicile to the US, Lagat had an extensive competitive career representing his native country. He is the American record holder in the 1500 m and mile run indoors, as well as the 1500 m and 3000 m outdoors, and is the Kenyan record holder at 1500 m outdoors. Lagat is the second fastest 1500 m runner of all time, behind Hicham El Guerrouj. Rashid Ramzi ( ar, رشيد رمزي) (born July 17, 1980) is a Moroccan-Bahraini track and field athlete competing internationally for Bahrain in the 800 metres and 1500 metres. Ramzi was investigated by the IAAF after the 2008 Summer Olympics and was stripped of his gold medal for doping. Ramzi was born in Safi, Morocco. After transferring to Bahrain, he ascended to the top of the Asian scene, winning gold medals at the Asian Athletics Championships and the 2002 Asian Games.
