2013 The Summit League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2013 Summit League men's basketball tournament was the 2013 post-season tournament for Summit League, an NCAA Division I athletic conference. The tournament took place March 9–12, 2013 at the Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Only 2012–13 Nebraska–Omaha Mavericks men's basketball team, Nebraska–Omaha was ineligible for the 2013 tournament due to its NCAA Division I transition. Teams were seeded by conference record, with tiebreakers used when necessary. Tiebreaking procedure The following rules define the tiebreaking procedure for The Summit League tournament. If there are multiple ties, the ties shall be broken in descending order. Once a tie is broken using the procedures below, it shall remain broken for purposes of all future comparisons. Sioux Falls Arena
Sioux Falls Arena is a 7,500-seat multi-purpose arena located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The facility was built in 1961. It seats 6,113 for basketball games and 4,760 for indoor football and hockey. It was the home of the Sioux Falls Skyforce basketball team (1989–2013), the Sioux Falls Storm indoor American football, indoor football team, and the Sioux Falls Stampede ice hockey team, as well as a variety of state high school championship events. The Sioux Falls Arena hosted the men's and women's The Summit League, Summit League Basketball Championship from 2009 until the opening of the Denny Sanford Premier Center, Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in 2014. The 2012–13 IUPUI Jaguars men's basketball team represented Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Jaguars, led by second year head coach Todd Howard, played their home games at IUPUI Gymnasium (better known as ''The Jungle''), with three games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, and were members of The Summit League. Summit League Men's Basketball Tournament
The Summit League men's basketball tournament is the post-season tournament for NCAA Division I conference Summit League. The winner of the tournament receives the Summit League's automatic bid into the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. The tournament was first played in 1984, when the league was known as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities (AMCU). The league was also known as the Mid-Continent Conference from 1989 to 2007, after which it was renamed to The Summit League. Format Currently, the top 8 men's basketball teams in the Summit League receive a berth in the conference tournament (barring NCAA sanctions). The 2012–13 UMKC Kangaroos men's basketball team represented the University of Missouri–Kansas City during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Kangaroos, led by sixth year head coach Matt Brown, played their home games at the Swinney Recreation Center, with one home game at the Municipal Auditorium, and were members of The Summit League. The rating percentage index, commonly known as the RPI, is a quantity used to rank sports teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule. It is one of the sports rating systems by which NCAA basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball teams are ranked. This system was in use from 1981 through 2018 to aid in the selecting and seeding of teams appearing in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as well as in the women's tournament from its inception in 1982 through 2020. During the 2018 offseason, the NCAA announced that the RPI would no longer be used in the selection process for the Division I men's basketball tournament.
