2013 New Year Honours (New Zealand)
The 2013 New Year Honours in New Zealand were appointments by Elizabeth II in her right as Queen of New Zealand, on the advice of the New Zealand government, to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by New Zealanders, and to celebrate the passing of 2012 and the beginning of 2013. Elizabeth II
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. Mark Todd (equestrian)
Sir Mark James Todd (born 1 March 1956) is a New Zealand horseman noted for his accomplishments in the discipline of eventing, voted Rider of the 20th century by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports. He won gold medals at Los Angeles (1984) and Seoul (1988) Olympics, the Badminton Horse Trials on four occasions, the Burghley Horse Trials five times, and as a member of New Zealand's Eventing team, he won gold medals at the World Championships in 1990 and 1998 (Rome), plus 20 or more other international events, and numerous other international individual and team titles. Tūroa Royal
Tūroa Kiniwe Royal ( QSO ED D.Litt. (Hon) MA MEdAdmin DipTchg), (1935-2023) was a Māori educationist. Born in 1935, Royal dedicated his long career to improving Māori educational achievement and was involved in numerous innovations in New Zealand education utilising aspects of Māori culture, language and ideas. He was a teacher at Tāmaki College, Auckland, a Department of Education Inspector of Māori and Island Education, and principal of Wellington High School for eight years. Hamilton, New Zealand
Hamilton ( mi, Kirikiriroa) is an inland city in the North Island of New Zealand. Located on the banks of the Waikato River, it is the seat and most populous city of the Waikato region. With a territorial population of , it is the country's fourth most-populous city. Ian Pool
David Ian Pool (22 November 1936 – 28 April 2022) was a New Zealand demographer. He was the inaugural director of the Population Studies Centre at the University of Waikato from 1980 to 2004, and was made a professor emeritus when he retired from the university in 2010. Biography Born on 22 November 1936 at "Edenholme", a private maternity home in the Auckland suburb of Mount Eden, Pool was the son of Doris Pool (née Messer) and James Pool. He grew up in Dargaville, and went on to study at Auckland University College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958, and a Master of Arts with second-class honours in 1960. Lester Levy (born 1954) is a South African-born business leader, adjunct professor, and medical doctor based in Auckland, New Zealand. He chairs a number of large boards in New Zealand's largest city. Early life and education Levy grew up in a small town near Sharpeville, South Africa. He was six years old when the Sharpeville massacre occurred, and the event formed many of his basic life philosophies, e.g. he is wary of authority, distrustful of ideology, and does not have a desire to fit in. Keri Kaa
Hohi Ngapera Te Moana Keri Kaa (194226 August 2020) was a New Zealand writer, educator, and advocate for the Māori language. She was of Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Kahungunu descent. Family and education Kaa was born in 1942 in Rangitukia on New Zealand's East Cape. Her father was the Reverend Tipi Whenua Kaa, from Rangitukia, who was vicar of the Waiapu parish and her mother Hohipene Kaa (formerly Whaanga) was from Wairoa. Havelock North ( mi, Te Hemo-a-Te Atonga) is a town in the Hawke's Bay region of the North Island of New Zealand, situated less than 2 km south-east of the city of Hastings.
