2013 Miami Marlins Season
The Miami Marlins' 2013 season was the 21st season for the Major League Baseball franchise, and the second as the "Miami" Marlins. The Marlins finished the season with a 62-100 record, their 2nd worst record as an MLB franchise, and failed to make the playoffs for the 10th consecutive season. National League East
The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. The division was created when the National League (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. Two teams in the Eastern Time Zone, the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, were in the same division as teams on the Pacific coast. This was due to the demands of the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, who refused to support expansion unless they were promised they would be kept together in the newly created East division. Major League Baseball
Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball organization and the oldest major professional sports league in the world. MLB is composed of 30 total teams, divided equally between the National League (NL) and the American League (AL), with 29 in the United States and 1 in Canada. The NL and AL were formed in 1876 and 1901, respectively. Beginning in 1903, the two leagues signed the National Agreement and cooperated but remained legally separate entities until 2000, when they merged into a single organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball. Brandon James Lyon (born August 10, 1979) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, and New York Mets. Professional career Toronto Blue Jays Lyon made his major league debut halfway through the 2001 season, posting a five-win, four-loss record for the Toronto Blue Jays, with a 4.29 ERA from 11 starts. Jeremy Hefner
Jeremy Scott Hefner (born March 11, 1986) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and pitching coach for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played in MLB for the New York Mets, and has previously coached for the Minnesota Twins. Amateur career Hefner attended Perkins-Tryon High School. He was a first-team all-state selection as a senior. He also lettered in football. Hefner attended Seminole State College for two years before transferring to Oral Roberts University. In his freshman year, he was 5–4 with a 4.03 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 46 innings. In his sophomore year, he was 4–1 with a 4.25 ERA and 49 Ks in 36 innings pitched. Alejandro “Alex” Sanabia (born September 8, 1988) is a right-handed pitcher for the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Florida/Miami Marlins. Career Florida/Miami Marlins Prior to playing professionally, Sanabia attended Castle Park High School in Chula Vista, California. 2013 New York Mets Season
The 2013 New York Mets season was the franchise's 52nd season. The Mets hosted the 84th MLB All-Star Game on July 16 at Citi Field, their home for five seasons. The Mets finished the season with a record of 74–88, finishing third in the National League East Division. The season was the Mets' first non-fourth-place finish since 2008. It was also the final season for Ralph Kiner, who had been with their broadcast team since its first season. Jordan Zimmermann
Jordan M. Zimmermann (born May 23, 1986) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Washington Nationals, Detroit Tigers, and Milwaukee Brewers. Zimmermann was a two-time MLB All-Star, and co-led the National League in wins in 2013. Kevin Slowey
Kevin Michael Slowey (born May 4, 1984) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Slowey was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the second round (73rd overall) of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft. He also played for the Miami Marlins. After his playing career ended, Slowey joined the Major League Baseball Players Association as an assistant. College Slowey drew little attention from Division I schools and ended up attending Winthrop University on an academic scholarship after scoring a 1420 on his SAT. Giovany Aramis González (born September 19, 1985) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox. A two-time All-Star, González led the National League in wins and won the Warren Spahn Award in 2012. He is of Cuban descent. Rafael Soriano (born December 19, 1979) is a Dominican former professional baseball pitcher.
