A state legislative assembly ( ms, Dewan Undangan Negeri, DUN; also known simply as state assembly) is the legislative branch of the state governments in each of the 13 Malaysian states. Members of a state legislative assembly comprises elected representatives from single-member constituencies during state elections through the first-past-the-post system. The assemblies have powers to enact state laws as provided for by the Constitution of Malaysia. The majority party in each assembly forms the state government, and the leader of the majority party becomes Menteri Besar (for states with hereditary rulers) or Chief Minister (for states without hereditary rulers) of the state. The state legislative assemblies are unicameral, unlike the bicameral Parliament of Malaysia. People's Progressive Party (Malaysia)
The People's Progressive Party (myPPP; ms, Parti Progresif Penduduk) was a de-registered multiracial political party in Malaysia which was one of the component members of the National Front or ''Barisan Nasional'' coalition from 1973 to 2018. The party has two distinct phases - the first as a respected opposition party from the 1950s to the 1970s when its stronghold was Perak and it led the administration of Ipoh. The second was as a minor party in the Barisan Nasional coalition that only won a single parliamentary seat in more than four decades and was riddled with factional disputes. 2013 Kuala Besut By-election
A by-election was held for the Terengganu State Assembly seat of Kuala Besut on 24 July 2013 with nomination day on 12 July 2013. The seat of Kuala Besut fell vacant after the death of incumbent assemblyman, A. Rahman Mokhtar on 26 June 2013 from lung cancer. Dr. Mokhtar was an assemblyman from the United Malays National Organisation, a component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, which holds a 1-seat majority into the by-election. The by-election was contested by Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman from UMNO and Azlan Yusof, who hails from the Pakatan Rakyat component Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party. The People's Welfare Party or ''Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air'' (KITA) is a small political party in Malaysia, based in the state of Kelantan. Founded as AKIM (1995) The party was formerly known as the Malaysian People Justice Front or Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia when it was founded on 16 February 1995. AKIM was founded as a splinter party of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party in 1995 following internal disagreements by members within the party. A few members from Parti Melayu Semangat 46 also joined the fray following its dissolution in 1996.
