2013 Macedonian Local Elections
The sixth local elections for the election of local mayors of the municipalities of the Republic of Macedonia and members of city council, municipality councils were held on schedule in 2013. There were two large coalitions on the elections: the ''Coalition for a Better Macedonia'' led by VMRO-DPMNE and the ''Union for the Future'' led by SDSM. Also present on the elections was the Democratic Union for Integration (''DUI''), Democratic Party of Albanians (''DPA'') and the Union of Roma Forces. There was also coalition made between the two major rival parties VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM in Kičevo Municipality, Kičevo and Struga Municipality, Struga municipalities against the ethnic Albanian candidates Fatmir Dehari and Ramiz Merko of DUI. There were two rounds in the elections on March 24, 2013 and April 7, 2013. Local Elections
In many parts of the world, local elections take place to select office-holders in local government, such as mayors and councillors. Elections to positions within a city or town are often known as "municipal elections". Their form and conduct vary widely across jurisdictions. By area Europe Adopted by the Congress of the Council of Europe, The European Charter of Local Self-Government aims to establish basic European rules in order to measure and safeguard the rights of local authorities. The Charter commits the parties to applying basic rules guaranteeing the political, administrative and financial independence of local authorities. The Congress conducts two main activities so as to evaluate the Charter's implementation: local and regional election monitoring and observation. United For Macedonia
United for Macedonia ( mk, Обединети за Македонија, ''Obedineti za Makedonija'') is a political party in North Macedonia. It was founded by Ljube Boškoski, a former Interior ministry, interior minister and former member of the Conservatism, conservative VMRO-DPMNE. History After having been acquitted of all charges against him at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Ljube Boškoski returned to Macedonia on 11 July 2008. After disagreements with the new leadership of his party, VMRO-DPMNE, he decided to participate in the 2009 Macedonian presidential election, 2009 presidential elections as an independent candidate and at the end of May 2009 formed his own party, ''United for Macedonia''. The Liberal Democratic Party ( Macedonian: Либерално-демократска Партија, ''Liberalno-demokratska Partija'') is a social-liberal political party in North Macedonia. The Liberal Democratic Party was launched in April 1997 as a merger between the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party. The first leader of the party was Petar Goshev from the Democrats, who was also the last president of the League of Communists of Macedonia. When the Liberal Party was re-established in 1999, a significant portion of the former Liberal Party remained in LDP. Since 1994 the LDP has been a member of Liberal International. The New Social Democratic Party ( mk, Нова социјалдемократска Партија, ''Nova socijaldemokratska partija'', NSDP) is a centre-left, social-democratic political party in North Macedonia. The Socialist Party of Macedonia ( mk, Социјалистичка партија на Македонија, ''Socijalistička Partija na Makedonija'', SPM) is a political party in North Macedonia founded on 22 September 1990 as a successor to the Socialist Alliance of Working People of Yugoslavia.
