2013 Kenyan Local Elections
Local elections were held in Kenya on 4 March 2013 as part of the general elections. Voters elected governors and members of County Assemblies of the 47 counties created by the 2010 constitution. Electoral system Kenyan law requires governors to have a recognised university degree. This clause resulted in challenges for aspirants including Soita Shitanda in Kakamenga and Margaret Wanjiru in Nairobi County Representative were elected in single member wards, of which there were a total of 1,450. Several County Representatives were also nominated to represent youths and disabled people in the various county assemblies from party lists, and after the elections 680 women were also nominated to the various county assemblies to ensure gender balance. Results Governors Cornel Rasanga's election as Siaya governor was nullified in August 2013 following a petition at the High Court in Kisumu. Lamu County
Lamu County is a county of Kenya located along the North Coast of the country and is one of the six Coastal Counties in Kenya. Its capital is the town of Lamu. Tharaka County
Tharaka-Nithi County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya located in Kenya's former Eastern Province. The county has an area of 2609 km2 and as of the 2019 census a population of 393,177. Tharaka-Nithi County is the home to the Chuka, Muthambi, Mwimbi and Tharaka sections of the Ameru (Meru) community. Peter Munya
Peter Gatirau Munya (born 1969) is the immediate former Cabinet Secretary of Kenya's Ministry of Agriculture. He took over the ministry on 14 January 2020 after being transferred from the Ministry of Trade and Industrialization. He also served in the same capacity in the ministry of East African Community and Northern Corridor Development. He is a politician who served as the first governor of Meru County, and as the second Chairman of the Council of Governors. Meru County
Meru County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya, located in the former Eastern Province. The county lies between 0° 6′ North and 0° 1′ South and between latitudes 37° West and 38° East. It borders Isiolo County to the North, Tharaka/Nithi County to the East, Nyeri County to the South West and Laikipia County to the West. Isiolo County
Isiolo County is a county in the former Eastern Province of Kenya. Its population is 268,002 (2019 census) and its capital and largest city is Isiolo. Isiolo County is to be the first county to be developed as part of the Kenya Vision 2030 program. Other upcoming urban centres are: Garbatulla, Modogashe, Kinna, Merti and Oldonyiro. The local topography is arid or semi-arid low plains. Ewaso Nyiro River flows through the county and partly bounds it. Marsabit County is a county in Kenya. Covering a surface area of 66,923.1 square kilometres. Marsabit is the second largest county in Kenya. Its capital is Marsabit and its largest town Moyale. United Republican Party (Kenya)
The United Republican Party (URP) was a political party in Kenya. History The party was launched by William Ruto, in conjunction with several Kenyan politicians allied to a faction of Orange Democratic Movement opposed to Raila Odinga, as their vehicle for the March 2013 general elections. The party's launch was announced after a week of meetings on 15 January 2012. In December, Ruto and the leaders of several other political parties signed a pre-election coalition deal, in which he became a running mate for Uhuru Kenyatta and URP received half the spoils of an election victory. Mandera County
Mandera County is the northeasternmost county in Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Mandera. The county is bordered by Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east and Wajir County to the southwest. According to the 2019 census, the county has a population of 1,200,890 and an area of . The main economic activity in the county is pastoralism, while others include cross-border trade with Ethiopia, artisanal mining, beekeeping, and agriculture along the Dawa River.
