2013 IPC Athletics World Championships – Men's 400 Metres
The men's 400 metres at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships was held at the Stade du Rhône from 20–29 July. There were 12 categories contested over the 400m at the championship. Two World records were set in the 400m, Chermen Kobesov of Russia posted a time of 51.88s in the T37 class, while Ahmad Almutairi of Kuwait recorded a time of 57.95s in the T33 category. Almutairi's category was not part of the schedule of this championship, but he qualified to compete in the T34 category. Despite coming last in his qualifying round and not advancing to the final he still broke the T33 world record. The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics (sport), athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course. In many countries, athletes previously competed in the 440-yard dash (402.336 m)—which is a quarter of a mile and was referred to as the 'quarter-mile'—instead of the 400 m (437.445 yards), though this distance is now obsolete. Like other sprint disciplines, the 400 m involves the use of starting blocks. Gunther Matzinger
Gundaharius or Gundahar (died 437), better known by his legendary names Gunther ( gmh, Gunther) or Gunnar ( non, Gunnarr), was a historical king of Burgundy in the early 5th century. Blake Leeper (born August 31, 1989) is a United States Paralympic athlete, eight-time Paralympic Track and Field international medalist, world record holder and three-time American record holder. Leeper started his medal run in 2011 at the Parapan American Games where he took silver in the 100-meter dash. He went on to compete in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, where he picked up two more medals, a bronze in the 200-meter dash and silver in the 400-meter dash, losing to South African Oscar Pistorius, whose world record of 45.39 seconds is the one Leeper was chasing. Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira (born August 21, 1992) is a Paralympian athlete from Brazil competing mainly in category T44 sprint events. Oliveira is a double-below-the-knee amputee, classifying him in the Paralympic T43 class; athletes in this class run in T44 event. Biography Oliveira was born in Marabá, in the state of Pará. He had both legs amputated at the age of 21 days, after an intestinal infection led to sepsis. By the age of eight, he was competing in athletics. Union Sekailwe (born 6 January 1986) is a Paralympian athlete from South Africa competing mainly in category T38 sprint events. Charl du Toit (born 26 March 1993) is a South African former Paralympic sprinter who competed in the T37 class. Du Toit has competed at two Summer Paralympic Games, London 2012 and Rio 2016.
