2013 Horizon League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2013 Horizon League men's basketball tournament began on March 5, 2013, and ended with the championship game on Tuesday, March 12. First round games were played on the home court of the higher-seeded team. The second round and semifinals were hosted by the No. 1 seed Valparaiso, while the highest remaining seed hosted the championship game. All Horizon League schools participated in the tournament. Teams were seeded by their regular season record, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. The top two teams received a bye (sports), bye to the semifinals. With the departure of Butler to the Atlantic 10, there were only three first round games. Valparaiso ( ), colloquially Valpo, is a city and the county seat of Porter County, Indiana, United States. The population was 34,151 at the 2020 census. History The site of present-day Valparaiso was included in the purchase of land from the Potawatomi people by the U.S. Government in October 1832. Chiqua's town or Chipuaw was located a mile east of the current Courthouse along the Sauk Trail. Chiqua's town existed from or before 1830 until after 1832. 2012–13 Valparaiso Crusaders Men's Basketball Team
The 2012–13 Valparaiso Crusaders men's basketball team represented Valparaiso University during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cruasaders, led by second year head coach Bryce Drew, played their home games at the Athletics–Recreation Center and were members of the Horizon League. The season finished with 26–8 in overall, 13–3 in Horizon League to become Horizon League Regular Season Champions. They were also champions of the Horizon League tournament, defeating Wright State in the championship game, for the first Horizon League title in school history. Bryce Drew
Bryce Homer Drew (born September 21, 1974) is an American college basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Grand Canyon Antelopes. Previously he served as the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores and in the same capacity at his alma mater, Valparaiso, having succeeded his father, Homer Drew. Drew has led his teams to the NCAA tournament on four occasions, including at least once at each of the three schools he has been the head coach of. Bryce's brother, Scott, also coached at Valpo before becoming the head coach of the Baylor Bears. In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). Ryan Broekhoff (born 23 August 1990) is an Australian professional basketball player for the South East Melbourne Phoenix of the National Basketball League (NBL). Horizon League Men's Basketball Tournament
The Horizon League men's basketball conference tournament is held annually at the end of the men's college basketball regular season. The tournament has been played each year since 1980. The winner of the tournament is designated the Horizon League Tournament Champion and receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
