2013 Hampstead And Kilburn Conservative Primary
The Hampstead and Kilburn Conservative Party parliamentary primary of 2013 was the 1st open primary election used to select the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the North London constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn. The election was held on Wednesday 30 January 2013 under the first-past-the-post system. It was the third primary organised by a Conservative Association to select a PPC, after Totnes and Gosport. However, unlike previous primaries, voting took place at a public meeting rather than by postal ballot. At the time, the seat was held by Glenda Jackson, a long serving Labour MP and as due to the close race in 2010, was the Conservatives' number one target seat at the 2015 election. Seema Louise Ghiassi Kennedy (' Ghiassi, fa, سیما غیاثی; born 6 October 1974) is a British Conservative Party politician who served as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at both the Department of Health and Social Care and the Home Office in 2019. The Cameron–Clegg coalition was formed by David Cameron and Nick Clegg when Cameron was invited by Queen Elizabeth II to form a new administration, following the resignation of Prime Minister Gordon Brown on 11 May 2010, after the general election on 6 May. Maajid Usman Nawaz (; born 2 November 1977) is a British activist and former radio presenter. He was the founding chairman of Quilliam. Until January 2022, he was the host of an LBC radio show on Saturdays and Sundays. Born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, to a British Pakistani family, Nawaz is a former member of the Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir which led to his December 2001 arrest in Egypt, where he remained imprisoned until 2006. While there, he read books about human rights and made contact with Amnesty International who adopted him as a prisoner of conscience.
