The 2013 Grand View Vikings football team was an American football team that represented Grand View University as a member of the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) during the 2013 NAIA football season. In their sixth season under head coach Mike Woodley, the Vikings compiled a perfect 14–0 record (6–0 against MSFA opponents) and won the NAIA national championship, defeating , 35–23, in the championship game. Mid-States Football Association
The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the NAIA. Member institutions are located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, and Missouri. The MSFA was organized in 1993, and on-field competition began in 1994. The MSFA is divided into two leagues, the Mideast and the Midwest. MSFA member schools have won eight NAIA National Championships since the inception of the league in 1993. An MSFA team has played in each of the last seven championships, winning six of the seven, including each of the last three. Mike Woodley
Mike Woodley is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa from 1991 to 1993 and Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa from the program's inception in 2008 through the 2018 season, compiling a career college football coaching record of 107–53. Woodley left Grand View in June 2019 to become the first head football coach at Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. He retired in August 2021 before Mount Marty played its first game. At Grand View, Woodley coached his 2013 team to a NAIA Football National Championship title. He was named the NAIA Football Coach of the Year Award that same season, voted the Mid-States Football Association Midwest League Coach of the Year in 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2014, and the Heart of America Conference Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2017. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Football National Championship is decided by a post-season playoff system featuring the best NAIA college football teams in the United States. Under sponsorship of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the championship game has been played annually since 1956. In 1970, NAIA football was divided into two divisions, Division I and Division II, with a championship game played in each division. In 1997, NAIA football was again consolidated into one division. The 2019 game was played at the Eddie G. Robinson Stadium in Grambling, Louisiana. Grand View University is a private liberal arts university in Des Moines, Iowa. Founded in 1896 and affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the university enrolls approximately 2,000 students and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Barron Stadium is a 6,500-seat football field and track & field stadium in Rome, Georgia. It is home to the Shorter University Hawks and Rome High School Wolves football teams. The facility hosted the NAIA Football National Championship from 2008-13 and the NCCAA Victory Bowl in 2013-14, as well as the NCCAA track championships from 2014-16.
