2013 Falkland Islands General Election
The Falkland Islands general election of 2013 was held on Thursday 7 November 2013 to elect all eight members of the Legislative Assembly (five from the Stanley constituency and three from the Camp constituency) through universal suffrage using block voting, with each Stanley constituent having up to 5 votes and each Camp constituent having up to 3 votes. A total of 1,046 ballots (4,750 votes) were cast in Stanley, representing a turn-out of 75.4%, and 242 ballots (675 votes) in Camp, representing a turn-out of 85.5%. As no political parties are active in the Falklands, all the candidates stood as Independents. The Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands, Keith Padgett, acted as returning officer. Keith Biles
Keith Robert Biles JP is a British-born Falkland Islands banker and politician who has served as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands since his election in 2009. Early life and career Biles was born in the UK but moved to the Falkland Islands in 1995 as CEO of a branch of the Standard Chartered Bank. He retired from this position in 2002. Penguin News
''Penguin News'' is the only newspaper produced in the Falkland Islands. It is published every Friday and provides news and features about the islands. History The paper was founded as a monthly in 1979, and after the Falkland Islands War it became a fortnightly paper and then eventually a weekly paper. It was sold to fishing company Seamount Ltd in 1988 in the hopes of saving the newspaper, but after Seamount's bankruptcy the Falkland Islands Government took control of Seamount's assets, and legislation was passed for the Media Trust to guarantee the independence of the paper. Editions from 1979 to date are published online by the Falklands Government Archives. Jan Cheek
Janet Lynda Cheek (née Biggs; born 1948) is a Falkland Islands politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Stanley constituency from 2009 to 2017. Cheek won re-election in 2013 but stepped down from the assembly at the 2017 election. She was previously a Member of the Legislative Council from 1997 to 2005. Jan Cheek was born in Stanley and spent much of her childhood in South Georgia. For her A-Levels she was awarded a government scholarship to a study at a grammar school in Dorset. Cheek worked as a Secondary School English teacher from 1969 until 1989. She then moved to Fortuna Ltd. where she rose to become co-owner and director until her retirement in 2008. Mike Summers
Michael Victor Summers (born 1952) is a Falkland Islands politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Stanley constituency from 2011 to 2017. He was previously a Member of the Legislative Council from 1996–2009. Summers was born in Stanley and grew up in Port Howard. He moved to the UK at the age of eleven after winning a government scholarship to Shaftesbury Grammar School, a Dorset boarding school. He went on to read business studies at Middlesex University. After university, Summers worked for various construction and engineering companies all round the world, before returning to the Falklands in 1989 when he became General Manager of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation. Gavin Phillip Short (born 1962) is a Falkland Islands politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Stanley constituency from 2009 until 2017. He was previously a Member of the Legislative Council from 1989–1993. Short works for Cable & Wireless and is the Chairman of the General Employees' Union. He is a former member of the Falkland Islands Defence Force and a volunteer fireman. In November 2009 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly for Stanley, and in June 2010 he represented the Falklands at the annual meeting of the UN Special Committee on Decolonisation in New York City. Barry Elsby

Stanley is a constituency of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands which has been in existence since the first elections in the Falklands in 1949.
