Hoofdklasse (Suriname)
The SVB Eerste Divisie is the highest football championship for clubs run by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond. The Topklasse is at the top of the system of Surinamese football championships. The league currently comprises twelve teams and operates a system of promotion and relegation. Seasons run from November to June of the next year, with teams playing 30 games in the regular season. The league was known as the Hoofdklasse but became Topklasse beginning with the 2016–17 season, and then from the 2017–18 season forward, the Eerste Divisie. Relegation Group
In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. Sportvereniging Nationaal Leger, known as SNL, is the Surinamese football club of the national military, which currently plays in the SVB Topklasse. They play their home games in Paramaribo at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion. History Early years In 1926, the military football club M.V.V. (Militaire Voetbal Vereniging) was founded, out of which SNL amalgamated. Prior to the establishment of M.V.V. however, there was another football club of the Surinamese military, namely M.V.C.J. (Militaire Voetbal Club Juliana), founded in 1909. Franklin Essed Stadion. History Founded on 9 January 1934 as a Roman Catholic sports club, S.V. Leo Victor were founded by the working community of the Leo Victor cigar factory in Paramaribo, Suriname.
