2012–13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Women's Basketball Team
The 2012–13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team represented University of Notre Dame during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Fighting Irish, led by twenty-sixth year head coach Muffet McGraw, played their home games at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center and played their final season as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season with 35–2 overall, 16–0 in Big East play to win the Big East regular season and tournament titles. They earned an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament where they defeated in the first round, Iowa in the second round, in the Sweet Sixteen, and in the Elite Eight to make it to their fifth Final Four, where they were defeated by nemesis UConn in the National semifinals. Big East Conference (1979–2013)
The Big East Conference was a collegiate athletics conference that consisted of as many as 16 universities in the eastern half of the United States from 1979 to 2013. The conference's members participated in 24 NCAA sports. The conference had a history of success at the national level in basketball throughout its history, while its shorter (1991 to 2013) football program, created by inviting one college and four other "associate members" (their football programs only) into the conference, resulted in two national championships. In basketball, Big East teams made 18 Final Four appearances and won 7 NCAA championships as Big East members through 2013 (UConn with three, Georgetown, Syracuse, Louisville and Villanova with one each). East High School, often locally referred to as ''East'' or ''East High'', is a public secondary school located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. East is the oldest high school in the Des Moines metro and is part of the Des Moines Public Schools. East is currently the seventh largest high school in the state by enrollment with 2,076 students. Smoothie King Center (locally referred to as SKC) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is located in the city's Central Business District, adjacent to Caesars Superdome. The 2012–13 Louisville Cardinals women's basketball team represented the University of Louisville during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cardinals, led by sixth-year head coach Jeff Walz, played their home games at the KFC Yum! Center as members of the Big East Conference before the conference would split. They finished the season 29–9, 11–5 in Big East play to land third in the regular season standings. They lost to Notre Dame in the semifinals of the Big East women's tournament. The XL Center (originally known as the Hartford Civic Center) is a multi-purpose arena and convention center located in downtown Hartford, Connecticut.
